Eliminate the Park Reservation Requirements

Yep, and a park hasn't hit 100% capacity since 2009, so the chance is pretty darn low.
If a park hasn't hit 100% capacity, then why have they had their staggered tiered closings during Christmas/New Years weeks every year other than this past year. I'm an AP holder and have been shut out of MK on NYE day due to capacity by 10am. Not sure where you got your info, but they have hit capacity

They have had tiered closings, but they have not hit phase 4 (where nobody is allowed in) in a very long time. They usually push out a notification on MDE that the parks are at capacity and no longer accepting guests, but that is done even for phase A.

I'll throw in another reason i dont like the park reservation system. I found out yesterday that a friend of mine is going to be at disney for a day the same day we are, we didnt know that ahead of time before we made plans. His family is only going to DHS for one day, and of course its not for a day that we have a reservation at DHS.

the rigidity of this is, is annoying.

Not liking is absolutely a choice. Adapting tends to be a better one. The reservation system isn't going anywhere anytime soon. They can make adjustments to how they apply it, but it is part of the program and they like it.
I'd say I'm adapting. I've been to WDW twice this year and going twice more. Still don't like the park rezzy system and probably never will. Then again, I disliked Happily Ever After when it first replaced Wishes and now I love it. So who knows?

As an AP holder I can't stand the reservation system. My daughter got an unexpected break in her work schedule and we were super excited to head over to the parks on Saturday. But nope, there are no park reservations available so we can't go at all. This sucks, once again Disney is making having APs a bad investment. Why am I paying for a full year pass that I can't use when I want?

I certainly understand that. As an in state, within an hour of WDW, platinum holder, I get very frustrated at times over how local ap holders are treated. I do believe as the capacity increases and the new AP system is brought online, they can adjust the number of days based on pass type. The benefits for ap holders is access to the parks , so limiting that makes you question the value. Other benefits are just gravy

Agreed.

If they want it can be used every time a new attraction opens.

Will be curious to see if hopping is limited to MK when HEA after opens. We grabbed July 10 and 11 to see it.

When Tron opens they could limit hopping to MK, or at least what time you can hop.

That way they could do a 2nd Tron VQ lottery at 2PM like RotR.

Sure they could have MK hopping not include hoppers in the 2nd drawing (and they very well might do that), but the system does allow them to decide. Depending on crowd levels and popularity of an attraction-many options become available for crowd control.

They could say no reservations needed for September, but they might also want to "train" the public into expecting the reservation is always needed.

It's probably more likely that hopping times and availability would change by seasons though.

Very well could get back to every park is available every day during certain months anyway. If that happens-AP holders would be always be able to go last minute those days.

Of course, it could also go away soon. :)

And that’s your right as a consumer in a capitalist society. Maybe you should express your discontent with the Walt Disney Company as opposed to judging those that don’t have your same economic ‘sensibilities’.

What about AP holders? I have a platinum pass which has no blockout dates. If I want to go on a day when a park is full, I should still be able to go. That’s the reason I bought that specific pass.

Isn't this exactly why they aren't selling new AP's? Also, wasn't the reservation system in place already when people renewed? So it's not like you didn't know this was a possibility.

Yes, at this point, literally every current AP renewed knowing that the Reservation System was in place and reservations needed through at least 2023.

That's what I thought. So I don't understand the comments about being angry not getting to go whenever they want. If that was an issue, then why renew? And Disney knew people would buy them, knowing the deal about the reservations and still complain about said reservations, which is why they aren't selling any new ones. Those people ruin it for those of us who are cool with it, and would like to buy APs.

True. I renewed my AP after comparing cost of tickets for the times I knew I'd be going (peak dates w/peak cost). It ended up being more cost effective to just renew my AP. I'm not local, so don't have the option for last minute (potentially sold out) visits.

I had purchased my AP 2 years ago, I was going to "start" it last summer but then covid shut the parks down. So in fact I had purchased and paid for my AP before any of these changes occurred, so no I had no clue that what I paid for that pass would be not worth it when it came time that I was actually able to use the pass.

I'm not sure how my frustrations with the reservation system is "ruining" it for those of you who want to buy APs, that's quite a leap on your part.

You didn't have to activate it tho.

This isn't specific to you, but the complaining about not being able to have unlimited access to the parks by AP holders is why they aren't selling them to people who did not already have them. I bought DVC in jan 2020. Wanted to buy an AP to be able to go multiple times this year, but have never been able to since it would have been a new purchase, not a renewal. Disney knew AP holders would be upset about the reservation system and thats why they've tried to reduce the number of AP holders.

Do you know that for a fact or are you making an assumption? And even if it is actually true why are you upset with other AP holders and not upset with Disney - you know the people that made the actual decision?

It doesn't change the fact that if you are a local AP holder the reservation system is severely limiting.

Normally AP holders are the last to be shut out in the tier. I don't think it happened this past year but I am certain it happened since 2009. My birthday is Dec 28th, smack in the middle of Christmas and New Years. I have been shut out of the MK on my birthday as well as on NYE. I have never seen all 4 at capacity. There was always another park to go to.

I think Disney’s definition of “capacity” will change. They are trying to make the parks more enjoyable. So hopefully we won’t see the wall to wall people in the Magic Kingdom of Christmas, New Years and 4th of July.
But what will be interesting is will the “capacity” of a big holiday be the same as a middle of the week day at the beginning of May??
