Does anyone know how much these cost? Are they easy to get, or do you have to reserve them?
My mom has bad arthritis in her hip and sometimes it is difficult to walk all day.
Follow the link in my signature to the disABILITIES Board. At the top of the board, you will find a disABILTITIES FAQs thread. It has information about the various places you can get wheelchairs and/or ecvs.
The parks rent manual (push) wheelchairs and ecvs (electric mobility scooters). The ecvs are limited quantity, first come, first served.
There are also off-site equipment rental places that will rent manual wheelchairs and ecvs.
Ecvs are not the same thing as power (or electric) wheelchairs. Ecvs are usually steered with a yoke, like steering a bicycle, and the speed is controlled with a hand control. People are usually able to drive them with little practice. Power wheelchairs are usually controlled with a joystick (direction and speed are both controlled with the same joystick); it takes a longer time and more experience to drive them. Because they are harder to drive and cost a lot more than ecvs, the rental places will not usually rent power wheelchairs unless the renter already uses one at home.
