Electronic Magic Key...there's some issues

We were at the parks yesterday and tried to upgrade my ticket to a magic key in the app. The app had some bug that didn’t let me so I was instructed to go to the ticket booth. They were able to handle it there and even gave me paper tickets for the magic keys. The CM told me that I should use the app when entering the park and the paper tickets should serve as a back up in case my phone died, etc. Maybe they’re starting to automatically give out the paper tickets if you go to the booth?
Everyone I've known who had to go to the booth was automatically given the paper tickets. I've known two people who went to the ticket booth specifically to try to obtain a paper ticket and were told that they'd have to pay for it. Neither of them chose to do that, so they left paper-ticket-less. I don't think either of them escalated it to a manager, though.

I am hoping to get paper tickets for free by requesting them nicely (and pointing out that other people have gotten them for free), but I'm waiting until we get my husband's Magic Key, probably next month...

I asked on Saturday for a paper ticket at the gate and was told they can’t do that and I would have to go to a ticket booth. We never did that.

I used a screenshot all day Saturday to get my discounts as well as to enter the parks. They won't know unless you tell them.

There we go then, problem solved!
I just don’t understand why they are strong arming the app on people.

Not everyone is a phone obsessed 20 year old and this is coming from a phone obsessed guy in his 30s. I like having the OPTION to use the digital pass and the app in general, but you need to have low tech solutions to low tech problems as well.

They keep trying to funnel everything into a disjointed glitchy app. It’s dumb and it’s bad business. “Oh you paid 1300 dollars to come to our parks? Here you can buy this paper card for 20 bucks”is an unacceptable policy.

This whole system seems to be done to get rid of cast members. But you can’t simultaneously charge a premium for a premium experience and then inconvenience customers to cut costs.

It’s a damn barcode/sequence of numbers, seriously, you don’t need a bloated app to use one. It’s so dumb. I don’t even want to wait in line at a ticket booth to get the paper one.

It’s also hillarious because not too long ago, they outright REFUSED (officially, but lots of CMs were fine with it) to use the barcode on your phone.

I need to investigate this business about the barcode changing daily on the phone. Either way, a screenshot will work, and I’m kind of okay with that. I would screenshot MaxPass passes back in the day because I didn’t trust the app.
