This is a really weird question but... what is WITH the donkeys in the parade?

I had my camera and was taking pictures and the first donkey came up, grabbed my camera and started harassing me about not taking pictures of him. My camera is a higher end DSLR (I'm a professional photographer) and it really irked me that he grabbed my camera. Thankfully my husband didn't notice what was going on otherwise it would have been ugly. Then a second and third one also were nasty with me (one stood in front of my camera for a while, blocking any ability to take a picture of a few of the floats, another screamed in my face).

Is this normal!? I was really shocked because the rest of the parade was enjoyable but this really bothered me a lot. Seems so anti-Disney and left me with a really bad taste in my mouth. It was my only chance to see/take pics of the parade so I was bummed to say the least.

Donkeys? Help me out here...were these supposed to be the donkey-boys from Pinocchio? If so, then acting obnoxious IS part of them being in character. In the film Pinocchio, bad little boys (who drank tainted beer while playing hooky on an island of mischief) were turned into donkeys for, well, acting like donkeys.

There is being in character, but actually touching the guest or their property & screaming in guest's faces who are trying to watch a parade...a little over the top imo.

Sorry, it's been a LONG time since I've seen Pinocchio so yes, they were the Donkey Boys.

It just shocked me more than anything because everything else was so happy and that was completely out of left field when they started messing with me. If it was just the one I'd have brushed it off but by the third one I was over it and was hoping that little kiddos didn't have a similar experience with them!

Sounds like the Donkey Boys were trying to be in character, but I agree that it's going to far if they touch a guest's belongings. I've never seen them actually do that, so it sounds like you got one that was going to far. If someone grabbed my camera, I would have gone to guest services and complained. What if you hadn't been holding it and it fell and broke?

I video'd the Donkey Boys using a DSLR in June and they were hamming it up about having a tail and such... but nothing like that.

The date on the WDWMagic site and here are about the same... I wonder if it's the same performer?

Definitely going to far in there characters...

Sometimes, too much is not funny!

If it happened to me I would have thought it was funny.

If I had seen it happen to someone else I would have thought it funny.

BUT, not everyone reacts to everything the same way.

I do have to ask, though, how ugly would it have gotten?

LOL I was seeing live donkeys and thinking, "Wow Disney has change A LOT since the last time I went." :rotfl:

Tell me how funny you think it is when someone comes up and grabs $8K worth of equipment and starts harassing you. It was my first trip to Disney so I was excited to see the parade and take pics of it. Sorry I don't share your amusement.

I don't know for sure but he would have probably said something to him for sure.

Honestly, I can't imagine bringing $8K worth of ANYTHING into the park. Something that expensive or valuable in a place that crowded is a recipe for disaster. But that's just me. On the other hand, I'm surprised that (in this litigious day and age) a character would risk touching a guests belongings or the guest themselves. Sounds like these particular Donkey's got out of line.

I foresee a day when we'll have to wave to/pose next to characters from behind bulletproof glass, and parades are full of "Pope-mobiles".

Sounds like the Donkey was really just really into his character. No harm done. Sorry you had a bad experience

she stated she is a pro photog...one lens could cost $4k

That's really dangerous (because there is a good chance of something happening to it). He should have known better

Absolutely. I wasn't doubting the veracity of her claim that her equipment was expensive (not that it matters but I was a professional photog for many years myself). I question the choice to bring such incredibly valuable things into a crowded theme park. Heck I wouldn't even bring DH's ipad in with us.

I'm a pro and ironically that's my "b" team gear. I also have insurance in case of damages. I knew that for me, I really wanted to photograph the parade and fireworks and the quality from an iPhone and/or a point-and-shoot was disappoint me so I decided to go for it and bring it especially after reading here that so many bring SLRs on the rides and the like I figured I'd be fine with my gear.

It's none of anyone's business how much the camera cost. The point is he grabbed a nice camera and I agree, that's taking it too far. Although not worthy of a punch in the face:rolleyes1
