The search engine is diabled, so I was unable to look at old topics. I remember some discussion about electric wheel chairs (ecvs ?) from Walker Mobility. We are staying at the HRH and wondering if the ecvs can drive from HRH to either park and move around the park for the day without recharging. Also do the ecvs fit in the hotel rooms (my mother-in-law who needs the ecv is staying in a deluxe room)?

We will be checking in at 10:00 but are not planning on getting a room until late in the day. We do want ot go to the parks right away. Can Wlker drop off an ecv at the front desk so we can pick it up befroe we get our room?

Thanks in advance for any help/experiences that you can provide.

We rented an ECV from Walker Mobility in January following my husband's foot surgery and have nothing but good things to say about the experience. In answer to your specific questions, you charge up the ECV overnight and it's good for the whole day. We
were at the parks at opening and even went to City Walk one evening on a single charge. The ECV's will fit into your hotel room
without a problem. From HRH, you can travel directly to US & IOA but if you wanted to go to PBH or RPR the ECV can go directly on the boat. No problem. In terms of early check-in, Walker delivered the ECV to our hotel the night before our arrival. It is
held in the hotel's luggage storage area so it will be there for you
when you check in.

Walker's website can answer many of your questions:
www.walkermobility.com or you can call them at 1-888-SCOOTER.
They were very helpful.

Be sure to stop at guest services at either US or IOA to pick up
their "Rider's Guide" brochure for guests with disabilities.

Enjoy your trip.

ECV's will only cause trouble/hassle in that they cant go through most of the queues at either park.

Dark Marauder, do wheelchairs fit much better in the queues? I was hoping that the queues with FOTL would be shorter and better equiped to handle wheel chairs and ecvs. Do the parks rent ecvs or just wheelchairs?

The parks rent both standard wheelchairs and ECV's. We went into many queues with the ECV and if you are unable to take the ECV into the queue, each attraction has standard wheelchairs available at the entrance that you transfer into from your ECV.
The attendant will show you where to park the ECV and then give you the transfer wheelchair. You can take the ECV directly into all shows and even into several ride queues. For example,
we took the ECV right through the queue on Men In Black and were then directed to the elevator to get down to the boarding level. DH was then able to walk the few steps to the ride but if your MIL must remain in a chair, they transfer her to a standard
chair and the wheelchair goes right on the ride. (There were some severely handicapped youngsters there at the time who rode MIB in this manner.) We found the attraction attendants to be very helpful and considerate of guests with disabilities.

Depending on the severity of your MIL's disability, you may want to obtain a Guest Assistance Card (GAC) at guest services. This will allow you the most accessibility. For further info, jump over to the DISabilities forum which has lots of general info you may find to be helpful. Perhaps you can phone UO and ask them to send you an advance copy of the Rider's Guide brochure which will answer many of your questions.

IMO, you shouldn't be concerned about using an ECV; it didn't hinder us (plus, DS9 liked riding on dad's lap when he got tired of walking!).

Have fun!
