My son will be getting an electric/battery operated scooter in January and when the distributor came out to us he told us how it shouldnt be used in heavy rain. My first thought was "crap, we go to Disney in August when it suddenly starts pouring" Is there somthing people use to cover them up? Thanks.

walker had what looked like a shower cap to cover tilter in rain, did try to stay out of major showers but had no problems in summer strong storms.

it seems rain ponchos covering the scooter, shower caps and tiller covers are the most popular. Supposedly, this is still not going to guarantee 100% success, but it reduces problems the best.

There are plenty of places to seek shelter at Disney. Be ready where ever you are to go for cover. Know your surroundings and be prepared to go to the nearest shelter. There are pavillons and such that help this way. We pay heavy attention to weather forecasts and look at the sky often to watch for sudden overcasts and so forth. If the weather is looking iffy we head for some live entertainment like Beauty and the Beast or Indiana Jones or American Idol in Hollywood Studios. At Epcot you have Innoventions. You get the idea. Unless, the day is a total disaster with the rain; you can find ways to stay safe with the scooter; until the rain goes away.

Most important is not to go through puddles with the scooter as you seek shelter. Any scooter covers you use really doesn't protect the bottom of the scooter.

All in all, most scooters survive. Just be cautious and careful.

I just made a reservation for a scooter thru Apple yesterday. I was concerned about rain etc and asked what to do. I explained that one of their competitors said they had the only rainproof scooter. Apple rep (Alex) assured me that all scooters were fine in the rain. It's best to cover tiller and chair as best you can but not to worry about things getting wet. He did say to stay away from puddles.

The one company says theirs are “water resistant”, which sounds pretty good, but all are water resistant. None are water proof.

I agree it’s a good idea to cover the tiller and chair as best you can. Besides puddles getting the underside of the ECV wet, going thru puddles will splash your feet and you can lose traction in the puddle.

We ended up having to rent an ECV the first day of my last trip because my husband badly rolled an ankle. I had a few extra ponchos handy, so we ended up taking cover in the rain, or if the ECV was parked outside, I used some clothespins that I had brought and clipped two ponchos over the entire thing. I suppose that you also could use the cover for a lawn tractor/rototiller/snowblower, but if you could get your hands on a clear shower curtain, you could use that too. Heck, if he had to run it in heavy rain, you could cut a small hole in it for his head, give him a rain hat and the whole thing would be covered AND driveable!:cool1:
