I do believe that the 120v 20a receptacles (like in your house) on the power poles are supplied form a 20a GFCI breaker on the power pole, and thus would be safe. I would suggest that all connections be inside the tent or sealed in some way.
We only use cords with three prongs (have a ground), and make sure that none of the cords are damaged or have cracks in them. We've always been fine - even when using the cords for tent heaters in the rain.
Following the suggestions Rhonda gave you should be fine. How would I know? You should see all the cords connecting all my outside and yard lights near christmas time! (and I live in Texas- we usually only get RAIN that time of year!)
oh thank you so much for the advice. I think i'll run a 3 prong to my tent, then have a power strip in there for everything to run off of. I'd hate for a strip to be outside in the rain, 'cause i hear we are certainly getting some next week!!
Just be sure your cord is heavy duty outdoor type. Also, add the amperage of everything you will be plugging in and running at the same time and be sure your cord is rated to handle that load.
