Eisner at the World Series

Did anyone see Eisner on games 6 and 7 of the world series. Now I am not an Eisner basher, but there is a time and a place for this guy to appear on tv. I saw the shots of him (alone) on Saturday and with John Travolta on Sunday. Then, after the Angels won he had to speak! Gasp!

How does a millionaire Chairman of a Multi-billion dollar company get away with wearing a blazer with a Mickey Mouse shirt and a baseball cap on national television? That was Sunday. On Saturday, he just looked lonely and out of place.

The celebration of the Angels' victory was appropriately, all about the players and about the memory and legacy of Gene Autry. The interview with his wife and all of the many shots during the series of his family were a nice touch.

The interview of Eisner seemed out of place. Eisner appeared disoriented (even Drunk to some people). His comments were less than perfect. But this is the same guy who couldn't name all of the seven dwarfs when he appeared on The View a few years ago.

Those of you in California will have to let me know how the World Series victory celebration is done. Normally a parade in the community with all of the players is held. This way the entire community can celebrate thier team. I would imagine that this time around. The parade will take place on Main Street U.S.A. in Disneyland. This way the entire community can celebrate thier team.....at $45 per person.

I'm sure the World Series victory for the Disney Angels will push the selling price for the team way up. Then it's sell the Ducks and make way for Disney's NFL team. Yes folks, I'd say in five to seven years, LA will finally have a new, Disney-owned NFL franchise. That's great! Another football team that will be able to leave Los Angeles down the road.

The Angels are in fact having their victory parade today at Disneyland.

I didn't notice anything unusual about Eisner's appearance at the games. His speech IMHO was appropriate by virtue of the fact that he's the CEO of the Angel's parent company. However, I could not help but see through his glee in light of the fact that he's been shopping this team around to potential suitors all year long. The man deep down inside is a suit(with or without his Mickey t-shirt) in every sense of the word.

Well ... it was totally appropriate for ME to be at the game, since Disney still owns the team. And you can't really fault him for appearing on TV -- that's not his decision. The game wasn't broadcast on ABC, so there's no expectation of having "the boss" get some screen time. The folks at Fox are the ones to blame if you don't think he should have ever been on camera during the game.

As for the speeches -- you run the company that owns the "miracle team" that had just won an improbable World Series. You're standing on a stage in the middle of the field, with reporters and baseball players, sportscasters, fans, cameramen and Gene Autry's widow all around you. You probably don't know a BUNCH about baseball and have mostly been watching the Series. And then someone sticks a microphone in your face and asks you about the game or the team. I think most of us, in those circumstances, would be a bit disoriented too!

Congrats to the Angels. Great Series from both teams.

Giant Kudos to the company for having a free parade that led up to the two parks...so if the regular Jeaux's could see the players for free (the way it should be) and the park regulars could get a much closer, more intimate glimpse of each player. They really put together a cool looking parade, from what I can see in the pictures.

As for Ei$ner, the mouse shirt, and the speech....sports talk radio heads have been skewering him for this. It would be like Mark Cuban wearing a big realnetworks t-shirt on during the finals of the NBA, or Tom Benson skipping the 'Benson Boogie' if the Saints ever make it to the Superbowl to wear a "Toyota--Oh What A Feeling" t-shirt.

And no, you don't have to be an Ei$ner hater to have that opinion. What's wrong with either: a suit like a corporate executive; or a jersey, like a fan?

Well I don't know larry...I never gave his shirt or speech a second thought but some did...Why? He's the head of Disney which explains both, IMO.

Further, I understand Disney has been criticized for not letting people into the parks for free to see the parades. How crazy is this? Just another opp for some people to take a swipe...Even when there's no legitimate complaint in sight...

I thought the Mickey shirt was a sweet touch. It's not Eisner's team, it's DIS's team. Eisner wearing a Mickey shirt to me, shows he's a team player. He's at a baseball game. It's America. He doesn't need to be a SUIT. Would you be equally offended if he ate a hot dog?

Considering that DIS owns the team, the parade being in Disneyland was entirely appropriate. There are many security issues these days and I'm sure that the people being paraded were happy that people watching the parade had their bags checked.

As for selling the team and making money, GOOD! I have lost 60% of my investment in Disney, and I'd like a little of it back! DIS needs to stay out of football (where did you hear THAT?), I REALLY doubt after the heat DIS took for buying the Angels that that will happen.

No problem with the t-shirt. Setting aside pre-conceived notions about the man, I actually thought it was a cool touch. Mickey is not the equivalent of the Toyota logo, at least not to Disney fans.

As for keeping or selling the teams... I haven't crunched the numbers myself, but its my understanding that most professional sports franchises don't generate much in the way of cash flow. This makes them a drain on ROI. Given Disney's focus on this, I'd like to see them dumped, in the hopes it will take a small amount of pressure off of the other areas.

I'm sure Disney will get a bit of a windfall from the extra post-season revenue, which is almost free money since the players' salaries were already accounted for. But you can't count on that every year, and world championships bring escalating payrolls with them.

Its a good time to get out and take the profit from the appreciation of the asset.

What I <b> said </b> was, kudos to the Company for having a parade outside the parks for the general public, and inside the parks for the Disney fans and/or Angels fans that wanted a little more intimacy. "Giant Kudos" is a compliment....


But no, I don't want to see owners of a professional sports team in the dugout advertising their wares. NOT because its Ei$ner. Not anybody. Wouldn't want to see Budwesier t-shirts when the Cardinals are in the playoffs. If Rupert buys the Dodgers (as it was rumored wasn't it), I don't want him in the dug-out with a Fox Sports t-shirt on. Toyota = brand name, Mickey = brand image. Let Benson boogie with an umbrella....

For Babe's sake, dress at the ball park like you've been there before. What's the harm in wearing a baseball jersey, or if you have to appear business like (which he tried with the sports coat on) wear a dang turtleneck or a suit. I'm not trying to be the fashion police here...just trying to make a joke about how uncool Cousin Mike looked dancing around in the dugout with a jacket and a Mickey shirt on at a baseball game. You know what it said to me? "I don't own a jersey...but I got this shirt at Pressler's farewell party as a souvenir from Paul."

It's just my opinion. Hey, and before someone else calls me grumpy, I have three Disney ties I wear to work, right on top of my Tigger socks and my Mickey-as-a-pirate boxer shorts. But if I was the third largest shareholder in the company that owns the Angels, I would be dang sure to wear a jersey to the game.

There was a public parade & event at Anaheim Stadium, and parades at both parks in Anaheim. People came from miles around & lined up hours in advance. This was in the OCR today:

ANAHEIM - Red fleece. Red balloons. Red signs and red ribbons.

After a four-decade wait, tens of thousands of Angels fans painted Anaheim red as they cheered the victors of the 2002 World Series in parades along Katella Avenue to Edison Field, along Main Street USA in Disneyland and at California Adventure.

Along the Katella parade route, the fans' 1.4-mile stairway to heaven, vendors hawking all things Angels spread their wares on banquet tables. Red firetrucks with flashing lights carried the team, their families and their trophy. Red T-shirts and ThunderStix made up the requisite uniform for the day.

Adults skipped work. Schools in north Orange County reported higher-than-usual absences.

No matter where you celebrated, Tuesday was a day to remember, fans said. A day of lore and remembrance - of Jackie, Gene and Nolan. Of seasons when our Angels came oh-so-close. Of loved ones we wished could've been here.

Thanks, Pete. And if you keep this just between you and me, if Mikey would have shown up in "the requisite uniform of Angels shirts and thunderstix" at the game...I might have had a few Romey like quips for that one too.

That would have been funny...to see Cousin Mike in an Angels jersey beating his Thunderstix with John Revolta!!
