I saw this on the Today show this morning and then saw this article on a scouting list/serve. See http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/local/103841_scout11ww.shtml Normally, eighteen is the cut off for eagle scout but you have a reasonable period of time falling completion of your eagle project and Scoutmaster conference to have an Eagle Board of Review. In this case, the scout waited almost 70 years to have his board of review.

On the Today show, they announced that Mr. Olsen passed his board of review.

I just sat on four Eagle Boards of Review this weekend and do this story is just really special.

I saw that too. He was so cute! I was so happy for him.

That is so neat. I bet there won't be a dry eye in the house either. When our son recieved his Eagle I ended up crying. It's a proud moment for everyone.

I will have to show this to my DH although he didn't have the support of going from Life to Eagle he holds the record for the most Eagle Scouts to have a court of honor in the country!...and he did it twice.
This story will be something he'll love to hear about...

How many scouts did you DH have in a Court of Honor at once. A neighboring troop has had six a couple of times.

I did four Eagle Boards of Review last Saturday. According to Scouts-L, that is not a record either because one SM has done five in one night.

My DH had 11 in one group and 12 in the other.... It was a big job and consumed his life for 2 years but it brought so much joy to him....I'm not sure how many BoR my DH has done at one time I'll have to ask him when he gets home but I know many a night he was gone!...he really misses it.

How big of troop does you DH have? 11 eagles at one Court of Honor is very impressive. We have had five eagles this year out of a troop of 40 boys.

fklhou,

My DW just told me about the story that you posted. Thank You for taking the time to bring such a touching story to all of us.

My heart and soul goes out to the scouting program and to the many scouts I have had the honor of both teaching and being taught by over the years.

I was the head of the Eagle Scout committee in our district for a period of time and the most BOR's for Eagle's in one day was 9. I would never do this again..............

We had a program that went strong for quite some time and then it just dropped off with several boys making it to life scout. When I became involved my goal was to not allow any of these scouts to not become Eagle. The first group that I dealt with was 7 days and nights a week for one year. There were 13 boys and all 13 made eagle. It was one of the greatest and most rewarding times of my life to date. My DW was very supportive and this became a family event for us. THe boys became our boys and to this day I keep track of them.

The second group was a year later and we were able to finish our group off with 11 boys. Both groups were honored to have a personal visit with then President Reagan. I will post a picture if you would like to see them.

Each time I think about my boys I get tears in my eyes because of the great men they have grown into. Many are now married with families or on other paths that are honorable.

I thank the lord for a program that helped keep these boys on the straight and narrow.
