Exactly. You'll only get more abuse that way, because it will go to her mind in way saying 'Oh, yay I can rip on him all I want and he will just think it's his fault!'

I sent her a rather long text message saying how I don't like to be insulted and I didnt like how she thought she was the boss of me.

Agreed. She sounds like a total jerk, and she deserves no apologies on your part.
If she acts like that, she doesn't deserve to be your friend.
Who cares if she was angry? You didn't do anything, YOU don't deserve that.
Dump her sorry butt.
