I'm sure this will not be a surprise to anyone, but ABD has canceled all Egypt Adventures through 8/31/2011.

Full refunds are being offered or the opportunity to move your deposit to another Adventure without penalty.

If anyone has any questions, please let me know.

Our thoughts go out to the people of Egypt.

Wow, can't say I'm surprised. I would LOVE to see Egypt and would probably do an ABD if I ever did, but it's such a powder keg over there right now.

ABD should have done a tour to Israel instead :)

Not surprised, but glad that my DH wimped out on my "we must go to Egypt NOW" campaign of 2011.

Totally understandable, but I feel really bad for the folks I know who were really looking forward to this tour.

Why? Because Israel is so much more stable & peaceful than Egypt? :confused3

(Although I must say the economy is far better in Israel).

Yes, Israel is much more stable and peaceful than Egypt. My sister and brother have both been there in the past two years, and my dad is going on a gay tour next spring ;)

My sister and her family have lived there since 1978, and I was just there again in May. Yes, *at this moment* it's more peaceful and stable, but that can change just as quickly in Israel as it did in Egypt. Although in Israel, it tends to be more due to outside influences than internal ones like in Egypt.

A few years ago, two of my other sisters were there visiting. I have a picture of my three sisters sitting in a Sbarro. Less than a week later, that Sbarro was blown to bits. I came *that* close to losing 3 of my siblings. And this is in urban Israel, not some distant border area.

I love Israel, and I'm glad to have gone (and I'd rather go there than Egypt) but you can't predict what's going to be going on there any better than anywhere else in that area.

why hasn't this been deleted from the boards?
much less offensive comments in the other direction have been deleted.

In case you missed the memo, Israel is a democracy.

as for safety....yes the US is such a safe place.

The people in the world trade center were very safe.

The people in oklahoma city were very safe.

the people in Ft. Hood were very safe.

and let's now forget how very safe it is to walk the streets of Detroit....or just about any city in the US, including Orlando.....

Posts are rarely deleted for their content, they are usually deleted based on WHO posts the content. Get used to it. And you are correct, the world is no doubt a dangerous place. No arguments here. :thumbsup2

That's a bunch of crap Paul and you know it. Keep your agenda someplace else.

But you keep us safe, Paul. Thank you for that. :goodvibes

I don't have an agenda Pete. It's not a blanket statement for the entire DIS. History has shown that some folks can post pretty much whatever they want with impunity. Heck, I used to be one of them. I'm not saying there is anything wrong with it, it's human nature. Not a big deal. I wasn't trying to stir the pot. Just posting an opinion.

But you keep us safe, Paul. Thank you for that. :goodvibes

Thanks Mike.

Paul,

We try to consider intent, not just what's posted. We also consider a persons posting history. In this instance, someone who has been to, and has had family live in Israel posted an opinion on security there. There was nothing wrong or offensive with the post, so it was not deleted.

Armchair quarterbacking the moderation of a forum this size with no prior experience is foolish.

Pete, I've always been respectful to you. I'm not trying to tell you how to moderate your boards. Middle east conflict is a sensitive subject for me. Maybe I let emotion guide my post. Like I said before, it was just my opinion, not any petty agenda.

Tobi, I am thankful that your siblings are okay. I don't think Michael was being argumentative in his post, just pushing his want for an Israel ABD trip. I am sure many would enjoy that! :goodvibes

I think it's time to return this post to its original focus: spreading the word to those who booked Egypt ABD trips that they are cancelled through 8/31/11. Please refer to the first post for more information.

I remember the huge discussion that was going on in the ABD section when this trip first became an option. That an armored guard had to be with your party at all times.

...Yeah. I guess now I can see why.

I hope the struggle is resolved soon. Breaks my heart! :(
