I hate bugs too. This is my only fear of living in FL.

Next time you come across this beast, see if you can get a picture for us all !

Last night as I was walking back into the house after walking the dog, I noticed a rather large (fat) spider sitting on the sidelight window sill. It was rather large, so before it scittered into the house, I thought maybe I better step on it. When I did, a bajillion little spiders started running all over! At first I was horrified, then I felt bad cause I stepped on a mama spider. Still skeeves me out just thinking about it!!! :confused3

I should know better than to read these threads...bugs....YUK!!!

EWWW, BUGS:scared1:

I am waiting for our June beatles to come out soon. They are huge and like to dive bomb you at dusk.

If I do see it I will try to get a photo not sure if it will like the paparazzi:laughing:

called a spider cricket

Wikipedia.....

Although they appear intimidating, they are basically harmless to humans. They may cause minor damage to stored items, but are easily discouraged by eliminating the dark damp habitat they prefer.

Do not pick up and discard individual crickets.
Sweep with vacuum cleaner
Use glue boards or other sticky traps, e.g., fly paper or upturned strips of duct tape. Shoe boxes with sideholes and pasted with depilation wax inside also work.
Seal or screen entry points: cracks and gaps in foundation of building or siding or around windows and doors should be sealed.

Yep, thats the same critter. Nice to find out now they're harmless, after catching hundreds of them bare-handed as a kid.

That wouldn't bother me, but I HATE slugs and snails :scared:

We have the European slugs

They always seem to come out at night and you have to try not to step on them

Looking for that picture I read that they were brought to America in the 19th century so I guess you guys have them too!

Oh, do we ever!

I remember one we kept as a pet for a while...named him "Squishy" (Hi, Don!;) ). Must have been a good 6 inches long, kind of looked like something the neighborhood dog leaves on the lawn.

LOL. I have nature loving kids. In fact they go to a (day) camp every summer called Bug Camp!! Aereiosly they learn all about bugs!. The woman who does it is great! The kids really have no fear of bugs and know to not bother the singing ones:thumbsup2 Anyway a website she sent me to once is

http://www.whatsthatbug.com/

There are a lot of pictures and info there about a whole host of bugs. People can also send in a photo of a bug and have it identified.
