Educational things?

My first thought was to talk about different kinds of transportation, then take the train, ride Autopia and the monorail, ect. That is a crazy rule your school has by the way.

I don't get how you have time off to take the kids on vacation but not on a field trip. Is it different days? I'm confused!

Is it that you're not allowed to accompany your child on the field trip with younger sibling(s) in tow? In our school district, we are allowed to bring younger siblings with us if we can't or don't want to arrange babysitting.

a) i have time off because I am a full time mother.
b) I would not be allowed to bring my other children with me on the class trip.
c) not really a vacation...it is a two hour drive

I would be talking to someone at the District Office about this "policy". It is not fair for a child to be left behind just because her/his parents can not arrange to go on the field trip with them. I know you are planning on taking her to Disneyland anyway but I am sure she would enjoy the trip with the other students and teacher so much more this time. The next day the kids are going to be talking about what they did, say, etc and your little one is going to be left out of that also. Again, I would be knocking that door down demanding that my child not be excluded from the interaction of a field trip with her peers!!! Kids can be cruel and you can bet that those little ones will know that she was not "allowed" to go.... Better to put a stop to this now instead of letting it go on any longer. Good luck!

i hate the whole attitude that the school system has, that until a disorder interfers with learning, they won't do anything to accomadate it. DD is super bright, so she is top of her class in the academics, just not behavior.
She's been seeing a psychologist since last summer, and now I am in the process of setting up the neuropsychogical testing. Since she started seeing the psychologist, her home behavior has improved SOOOO much (night and day) but she still is tolerable at best at school (her teachers words) and in she is still pretty scattered in large groups like church, scouts, etc. After the neuro exams, hopefully we can come up with a teaching plan for next year that will work better. At the beginning of this school year, I was at the brink of homeschooling, but I don't know if it would be better to take her out of those big social situations or leave her there so she can learn to cope.
It is so confusing to know which way to go sometimes.

As i mentioned in an earlier post there are laws to prevent this type of situation for our children.... People with Disabilities Act.... as a parent with a child that has lots of "issues" I never would have gone for anything like what they are doing to your child it is discrimination and it will be apparentent to the other children that she was not allowed to accompany them on the field trip which could inhance any "bad " behavior on your childs part....I know my kids would much prefer a trip to DL to a school field trip but if you don't stop it now they will continue on this same direction and it will get worse. You are your childs best advocate and until you demand to be heard it won't stop, we had a couple issues when he first started school but I stopped them quick... and if you don't excercize your rights and those of your childs things will remain the same and as a parent of a disabled child I completely understand not wanting to rock the boat but on the other hand I will not stand by and allow my child to be treated any differently.....
sorry if it sounds like I'm on a soapbox but I had to fight for my child in the beginning of his education and they realized early I wouldn't let them get away with things they had been doing for years and for our kids we are thier voices so please try to talk with your district superintendent to make sure the next parent in your district doesn't run into this same thing.... I know my son's teacher now says if not for my early intervention things would indeed here be same ole same ole and she credits me with giving our kids and thier parents a voice and sticking my neck out to insure it didnt continue.....

I know it's hard to decide but if she is to ever have a chance at truly being mainstreamed and not feeling as if she is not good enough to participate with the other children. Sometimes I also thought of homeschooling but after I spoke up things did change and they learned new ways to work with kids who need some extra attention...it may take looking into another classroom or teacher ..... but ultimately it is your choice but public school can be a good option with a little prodding..... after all we know our childrens needs much better than they do!!!!

I second innoventions. The house with all of the technology is very fun. She could discuss how technology enriches our life, or how it has changed us, or guess what the future holds!
