Thanks @tjkraz for all your insightful comments on this thread, especially those covering what is "reasonable" to ask for from DVC. I agree completely that park tickets are an area where Disney/DVC could and probably should do something for members.Park tickets are an area where Disney/DVC could and probably should do something for members. No argument here.
I understand the elimination of AP's applies to all guests, not just DVC, but I think it impacts DVC members more than other guests. As a cash guest you can go once a year, or not at all, rather than twice a year if there are no AP's. However, as a DVC owner who wants to use their points themselves, if you own so many points you need to use them for multiple trips each year, or you have been using your smaller number of points to take multiple trips in a 12-month period and then skip a year, the elimination of the AP dramatically increased the cost of those multiple trips. I really think that to be "fair to members" (interpret that how you wish) Disney should offer an AP that is only valid for park entry when staying on property even if regular AP's are not offered. There would not have to be a DVC discount on such a staying on property only AP and it would not have to be exclusive to DVC members.
Just my 2 cents.
