I understand people bring electric wheelchairs and ECVs from outside vendors that can be taken between and outside the parks. I just don't understand why they occupy multiple (4-5) seats for their vehicle and THEN an additional seat(s) to sit in. I inquired with the bus operator who said it is safe for them to sit on their vehicle when it is secured and tied down, it just seems inconsiderate to occupy so many seats particularly after occupying a solid 10 minutes of everyone's time to get their vehicle onboard and properly secured.

My mother is one of your offenders. She has severe rheumatoid arthritis but we enjoy taking her to Disney World and the ECV makes it possible for her to keep up with the family, not be stuck in the room and truly participate. She does not choose to take up 4-5 spot but her disability and the layout of the Disney busses require her to take the time and space. As to the taking of another seat, we have been told countless times, the most recent in March of this year, that she cannot stay on her ECV for insurance and safety purposes. While I understand the bus drivers are fonts of knowledge in this situation, unless things have changed since March, you were told something in error.

I will pray for you and your family that you are never struck with a serious illness or disability that would require the use of a wheelchair or ECV because there are people that will make uninformed comments that can really hurt.

First, it's a 3 seat section that folds up to make a space for a wheelchair or ECV, not 4-5.

Second, the bus has a sign on it advising guests to NOT stay on the ECV on the bus. Even if they are well secured, they can and do tip.

If a guest refuses to go to a bus seat, the driver won't make them, but people should be transferring to a bus seat.

The ECV user's manuals also warn people not to sit on the ECV in a motor vehicle, even if the ECV is fastened down.
So, guests who transfer are doing it to be safe. And, it usually doesn't take 10 minutes to secure an ECV.

I don't see any point in keeping this open, since the reasons for it being done this way have been explained. So, the thread is closing.
