Well, with my trip a little over 1 month away it is starting to look like I might have to rent an ECV while there. I'm still recovering from the stroke I had, and walking for awhile, or standing in line, especially in heat, makes me VERY dizzy. I wouldn't last an hour on my own feet, with an ECV hopefully longer. Does DL and DCA rent these, and if they do do you know approximate cost. We're staying at GC so I don't think renting from off-site is an option, since I don't think they'd be room for the 4 of us, and an ECV in our room. Any help would be appreciated!

The last report I heard, ECVs at DL/DCA were $30 a day plus a $20 deposit.

I'm seriously considering renting offsite from Alan's wheelchairs where I was quoted approx $100-$135 for a week. I'm not keen on having to store the rental either, but its better than finding out all of the park's scooters are already gone for the day.

I have rented a scooter for my father in law many times. We have never been unable to get him one and he usually doesn't come into the park until lunch time or later. Maybe we have lucked out! We have thus far been in off season or early summer when crowds are only moderately busy. Although he usually joins us on Saturdays and that day is always busy all year! Since you are planning on going next month and the parks are crowded for the 50th that might be a problem I guess. I have heard horror stories on the disablities board about Disneyworld running out of scooters but have always had good luck at Disneyland. Another nice thing is that they have always let him take it back and forth between the two parks. Good luck to you!

I go to Disneyland all the time and I can not even walk from the hotel to the park to rent a scooter. I, like you sound, can walk for a short distance, but I damaged my knee permanently back on july 4th '06 and wouldn't last a long time on my feet. We stay at Disneyland Hotel or Paradise Peir when we go, usually and I rent outside the park from a company called Deckard Medical. First, let me say that I have no connection to Deckard, so I am not shilling for them, but I can not say enough good about them. That rent a really nice scooter, in fact the last time I rented, I got a brand new scooter that they had just put in service. They deliver right to Bell Service at the hotel and, where I can walk from the bell service desk to my room, I usually leave it with them at the end of the day. Bell Service plugs it in to charge for me, although you need to kind of keep on them to be sure they fully charge it. I even met the rep from Deckard once. They send a guy over to the hotel, at least once a day to check on all ther rental units, and if you do have problems, he indicated to me that they have spares on site that they can let you use so there is no wait time if you do have problem. I have rented from them several times, although I live in AZ, my wife and I LOVE DLR and DCA, and I have never had any problems, other than the bell desk forgetting to recharge my scooter once (but that is not Deckards fault). The rental fee is a little more than Disney, but I get to use the scooter all day and to go from my hotel to the park and not just around the park. Their number is 714/542-5607. I hope that helps everyone!!!

If you rent an ECV at the park and are staying on site, they will let you borrow a wheelchair to take back and forth to your hotel. This worked very nicely for us in July, as there was no way I was going to be able to walk back and forth from the Disneyland Hotel.

I noticed last weekend that they have all new EVCs at Disneyland and DCA. They evn had little head lights for night time.

I second that one...I use deckert everytime...the rental fee is only $5 more a day and after 3 days it drops down to about $15 a day....Ive never even thought about leaving it with the bell desk...I always take it to my room and charge it overnight...I stayed at the GC in Feb. and the first night I put it in my room but it is cramped in there so after the first night, I left it in the hall next to my door and plugged it in the wall charger and just took the key...worked out really well and during the day if I went back to the room I left it in the hall as well...deckerts is really good and they have very nice scooters...on my trip in june they did have to come replace my scooter because it had a faulty battery but they were there within 25 min. and put it together right there and it was on a sat....Im going again next mo and will be using them again:goodvibes...i would suggest using them because the walk from GC to the turnstyle to get your ecv can be long and you cant take it into DD....the $5 extra per day totally makes up for it....

I will be at the disneyland hotel on october 10-14 with a deckart scooter. Maybe we will see each other disneegrl4eva! That would be a great thing! :cool1:

I want to clarify my own post. This post I made indicated that its generally not a problem getting a scooter at Dl. This was posted over two years ago and I want to say it is a problem now on occasion! I noticed a couple of times people unable to rent a scooter last June and I was glad my fil has his own now and we don't have to run the risk of having that happen! So renting from Deckert or another offsite place is good advice now.
