We'll be arriving at WDW on Monday evening, but I'd rather not pay for a scooter until Tuesday (I can't see needing it Monday eve). In the past, the scooter company has always asked me when we were arriving, but I don't know what to say if we don't need the scooter on arrival day. So do I just say we're arriving Tuesday morning, since that's when I need it?

We have done this several times. You just tell the outside vendor when and where you need the ECV delivered.
They bill in 24 hour increments so you have to work out the pick up and return times with the vendor.
They can usually drop off the ECV in the early am before the parks open

You can always explain you are arriving Monday but will not need the scooter until Tuesday morning (let them know at what time).

We have done rentals shorter than our actual stay and will be doing so again our next trip; we need it mainly for MVMCP as that is our only park visit, but will keep it the next day and visit Disney Springs. Our actual stay is 3 nights.

We rent from Buena Vista. According to their FAQ: "Our scooters are guaranteed to be at the bellman of your hotel by 8am the day your rental begins (they will hold it there until you arrive). The scooter will need to be delivered back to the bellman of your hotel no later than 9:30am the morning after your rental is complete."

Thanks for that info. So if I want to use the ECV in the morning of the last day (after 9:30 am, but only until about 1:00) and return it in the afternoon, I'd have to rent it for an entire day, is that correct? It will be interesting to see, then, how Buena Vista compares in cost to Walker for us. It may come down to convenience vs. added cost.

Because we arrive at the resort after deliveries have finished for the day, I can never get my scooter until the following morning. But when I'm booking it over the phone months before we arrive, we always discuss where and when I want it. I'd rather save $100+++ than have the 'privilege' of the scooter being there on arrival. They also arrange not to pick the scooter up until noon on check-out day (when technically it should be 7.30am, being the same time as I have it delivered). I could just book an extra day and not have it picked up until 4pm; that way we can pop to MK for our last morning if we wish, as our flight isn't until 7.50pm.

There are many factors to consider. Preferred vendor (so they can drop off/pick up with Bell services without you needing to be there) vs other vendor (who will arrange to pick up and drop off directly with you). Cost. ECV model. Tiller style.

For example, my first ECV rental was with Walker as I wanted someone to show me how to use the scooter: that worked great ! However, my hands, especially my thumb, did not like the tiller design: the mechanism needed to make the scooter go was quite painful after not too long.

My second rental, in the same stay [pre and post cruise, so i used two different vendors :-)] was Buena Vista. The tiller design is different and **for me** means no pain.

For me, that tiller design difference alone means I rent from Buena Vista vs. Walker. Other have different experiences and their own reasons for renting from one or the other.
