I may need to rent a ECV for my DMIL for our 1 day trip to DL. I say may because she will fight us tooth and nail to walk. A little background on her condition. She is a diabetic who is slowly losing her foot. She hobbles around and love to walk, it is just that she has to stop and take lots of breaks. This is normal and we had every intention of having her walk in DL, we would just take it slow. Less than a week ago, she hurt her foot so bad that she can barely walk and can't fit a shoe on that foot. At 70 years old we are not sure how many more Disney trips we can take with her, so we are looking at any way to make her trip easier. We are by no means trying to cheat the system, as many people tend to jump to that conclusion at DL and on the DIS. I know how many people sneer and accuse people on ECV's who look "normal". I also know that driving an ECV at DL or WDW is hard to do because of the crowds.... we are just looking at possibilities for our 1 day drip to DL next week.

What is the cost for the day if rented at DL?

Thanks.

Duds

If I remember seeing right. It's 60.00 and when you return he ECV you get 20.00 back. Someone please jump in if I wrong.
There are so many people renting them that when she gets there she may find that it's no big deal. DL is so much walking even for someone with 2 great in working order feet. And if she falls that would really not make a fun DL Day.:thumbsup2

I just did an ECV rental in DL a few weeks ago, due to broken bones in my right foot. I didn't get any funny looks from people that would indicate they thought I was "faking it" - in fact, I found most people (guests and cast) very helpful and supportive.

An ECV is $35/day (plus refundable $20 deposit) if you get them in the DL parks (a limited supply, which have to remain behind when you exit a park), or $40/day if you have the DLH hotels arrange to get one for you that you can use anywhere.

If you're staying offsite, you can also rent directly for $40/day. The disABILITIES board moderator recommend Deckert's to me. If you'd like to call them to make the arrangements yourself to have an ECV delivered to your hotel. (714) 542-5607.

I was staying at the DLH and they made the arranements for me through Deckert . . . delivery was prompt, I got a good ECV and it only cost $40/day.

Good luck!

I second the Deckerts suggestion. DH and I just got back from disneyland on Tuesday. We rented an ecv for him because he had just had surgery to replace his acl and could not walk. We rented from Deckerts. They were very professional. Ours was a 4 day rental that ran $150, that included tax. They delivered it to our hotel. I know you can rent the ecvs when you get in the park, but I heard there is a limited amount and we didn't want to risk not having one. There was no way we could have done the trip with out the ecv. It was a life saver! Stop by city hall in Disneyland and they will give you a guide that tells you how to access the rides with a wheelchair or ecv. Good luck and have fun!

I hope your MIL will use one, and realize that it makes it easier and more enjoyable for everyone! Please reassure her that it's very commonplace and that most folks will not judge her at all. Tell her she can be your luggage handler and carry the backpacks/waterbottles, etc. making it much easier on all of you!

Hope you have a wonderful trip. :goodvibes

I know I am just echoing what has already been said, but we travel with my DM a lot, and she has recently had to have two full knee replacements. Before her surgerys, she just couldn't walk the parks without assistance. My adivce is to know ahead of time if she wants an ECV over a wheelchair, and if so, try to budget for the ones that you can use everywhere. The ones in the park go fast, and there is still walking to the park entrance, maybe around DTD, and you can't leave the park with their vehicles.

Honestly, she will have so much more fun if she has one, and doesn't have to experience any extra pain. I know my mom struggled against the idea at first, not wanting to be limited, but once she decided to go for it, it really improved her ability to enjoy our time as a family.

Hmmm...we were there last week and my MIL rented one each day due to a knee injury. There was a $25 deposit and the cost was $55/day for the ECV and I think $35/day for a wheelchair.
