I'm going with my son on a high school band/chorus trip next week to US/IOA and we (the whole group of kids and chaperones) are staying off site. I tried to get the "what day what park" info from the teachers planning the trip to no avail. I called US Guest Services today and the scooters one can reserve ahead of time in both parks are already sold out. A couple of ?'s:

1)Anyone know how likely it is I'll be able to walk up and rent a scooter on site during spring break? She said they do keep some there for walk-ups. We get to the parks around 10am each day (I have no control over that part - lol!)

2) Any other option with offsite rentals? I don't know of any place I can rent one for a day. I have no way to transport it even though I could use one for 3 days.

Just wondering if anyone knows of options I haven't thought of.

I've never rented an ECV from Universal, but I think it would be pretty unlikely to get one at the park during spring break.

Here's info on the ECV and wheelchair rental places. Even though this info is mostly for WDW, the vendors listed probably deliver to Universal and hotels nearby. Give the vendors a call and ask.

This is from the disABILITIES board here on DIS. Post #2 lists the ECV vendors. Post #9 has a little info on Universal.

Have a good trip :flower3:

i would attempt to get one delivered to your lodging and bring it with you. just the walk on from parking is LONG! practice taking it apart and putting it together. you will be fine!

If you want to rent the wheelchairs, they have plenty

Trying to get the ECV at 10 am not a good idea
No guarantee any will be available

Parks open early for hotel guests one hour before the public

I would definitely have rented one off-site but I have absolutely no way of transporting it. I'm reliant on my group's transportation (I'm chaperoning high school students) and we're on a bus. We are staying off-site. As we are traveling with a large group (3 bus loads of kids) I'm not driving and can't control when we arrive and I'm required to be with the kids I chaperone at all times. If I had control over the planning at least I would plan to get myself to the park at opening but I cannot do that - I'm at the mercy of the group. I regularly rent an ECV from Buena Vista Scooters when I stay at WDW. I just can't figure out now what to do at US/IOA. Hopefully I'll luck into a scooter rental.

I've been in contact with the ones in charge of the trip and had tried to get the info about what days we'd be in the parks but they just couldn't get it to me until it was too late.

I don't know where busses unload - I have been to the parking lot and it is indeed quite a hike to the park. Are there manual push wheelchairs available from the parking lot?

Thanks for the replies.

I meet with them Monday so I plan to ask them in person if there's a way for me to rent one off-site (portable scooter) and someone could help me break it down/put it back together and take it on the bus.

The buses should drop you off at the base of the rotunda where security is located. There are generally wheelchairs up there. You may need to have someone run up the stairs into the rotunda to get something for you. However, it is like WDW where there isn't always going to be something there and you may have to get them to go get more if they have all been claimed.
