ECV Rental and not renting a car for the week

Okay, I've been reading here for awhile and I need some encouragement. I have one of the "hidden" issues that, unless you know I have it, you would never know that I have. It's polycystic kidney disease. For the most part, I don't have an issue with everyday normal walking. However, whenever we go to Disney, I always rent ECV's whenever we go. Because if I don't, it makes me miserable which in turn makes my family miserable. I don't mind waiting in line for the rides. That's never been a problem before. It's just the walking in between and such. This time is different however.

This time, we are staying 100% on Disney property. We aren't planning on renting a car. We are planning on taking the buses and monorails exclusively. I'm extremely nervous about this. I don't want to ruin this trip for my family. It's just that sometimes walking long distances puts a strain on my body.

My husband is convinced that we won't be able to use them on the buses. I remember from past visits and from reading here, that they do allow them on the buses. We have rented from Walker Mobility in the past, but I'm considering renting from Randy's Mobility this time. So, my husband told me to do what I always do when I have a question. Ask the disboards members. LOL!!

I guess I really have 2 questions.

Firstly, I need one of the HD scooters. Will they fit the size requirements for the buses? I would hate to rent one and then not be able to take it onto the buses.

I figured that this was the best place to ask.

Also, has anyone rented from Randy's before? I'm in desperate need of some good advice/suggestions.

TIA.

Hi and :welcome: to disABILITIES!

Any ECV that you rent, other than the "Dream" scooter from one company, will fit on any of the Disney buses.

Randy's has been on the list of recommended vendors for many years. If you click on where it says "disABILTIES" at the top of this page it will take you to the Index. One of the top items is the "disABILTIES FAQ" which will gives lots of useful information, including in Post #2 where people rent ECVs.

Or, if you want an easier route to the FAQs, click on the link in my signature.

WDW bus drivers are extremely patient, and will usually go out of their way to make you feel comfortable about driving the ECV onto the bus. They are - for the most part - very, very kind. They joke with you or make small talk to get you to relax.

There are always one or two who ruin the "kind bus driver" profile, just ignore them. Smile - say thank you. :goodvibes

You should not experience any problems without a car. You'll be fine. :thumbsup2
