ECV related... Probably going to get flamed, but I need to say this.

I am sorry that you had these incidents with ECV users. I would have been upset as well. I know that i have been upset when strollers have been bashed into the back of my legs. Either a parent not paying attention or a child pushing their own stroller and they cant see over the top of it so they dont know someone is in front of them. I travel the parks with my husband who has to use an ECV, you would not believe the amount of people that jump out in front of him when he is just strolling along. I am not saying that in the OP incidents thats what happened, however some of the responses seem to group all ECV users together.
A few things to think about... When an ECV has to stop quickly because someone has stepped in front of it, it causes a jerking which can send the user into pain. Often the slightest bit of jerking causes alot of pain for someone who is just trying to enjoy the park with their kids or family.
I understand no kids should ride on the ECV, and mine never have done so. But i often think about the single parent or grandparent who is in need of an ECV and takes their child to the park. What are they to do? Should they tow a stroller behind them? I don't know that i have the answer for this, i just think that i cant judge them because i really don't know what i would do in this situation. Its not ideal for someone to have a child on an ECV however its not always feasible to have another person with them and they deserve the right to enjoy the park as any other "walking" guest. Its like when we are boarding the buses and you have the people that say things because we get on first, DH kindly reminds them yeah we are on first but off last, by the time he gets unloaded from the bus the rest of the people are already to the gates. Its so easy to judge people with out taking the time to put yourself in their shoes.
Every person has a unique situation and "story". Some bad seeds are mixed in with alot of good ones.

It is not about "judging" anyone. The "rule" is one person to a scooter. As far as "towing" a stroller behind-that is not allowed.

I never said it was a law nor did the person who I was responding to, they said policy. I took that quote from the Disney policy on this board's sticky.

Personally I believe that if it is Disney policy then they can enforce it with any ECV being used on their property. It's not a matter of the equipment but a matter of the expected behavior. I believe it should be enforced. It's dangerous.
You are entitled to your opinion but in the 15 years I have used first a scooter and then a powered wheelchair I have only been stopped once. Actually my daughter was stopped and told she could not use the scooter and I told the CM that the scooter she was riding was personally owned and I was using the Disney rental. She was using my scooter as she had just had surgery and was unable to walk comfortably. As long as she used my scooter Disney would do nothing. She was 16 at the time but looked about 10. I have students who regularly go to Disney (we are in So Fla) and use their personal scooters in the parks. Disney allows it.

I understand the RULE. I also understand that its not safe by any means. That is not what i stated. What i said was that i often think of the single parent or grandparent and wonder how they would do Disney if they needed to use an ECV. Clearly it would be allowed to tow a stroller behind, i was being silly hence the  face. However i dont know a persons reason to having a child on the ECV with them therefore i cant "judge" the situation. Often what one thinks based on what they have assumed is not correct.

But keep in mind this Rule you speak of is in the rental agreement between the renter and WDW. There is NO written rule regarding age restrictions of the driver or passengers that applies to privately owned ECVs. Or even rentals for that matter as Randy's will rent ECVs to some minors and WDW is well aware of this matter. The only written rules for privately owned ECVs are regarding the minimum number of wheels that the vehicle must have. ;)

Exactly! :thumbsup2
But you are not going to convince some people that you know what you are talking about. ;)

Where do you see I am talking about age?

Pardon me. My Bad. You don't... But to clarify when it comes to privately owned ECVs there are NO RULES AT ALL except for the number of wheels that the vehicle must have (this is to eliminate segways and any other similar 2 wheeled vehicles.) There is a WRITTEN policy that they must have a minimum of 3 wheels. That is the ONLY written rule regarding PRIVATELY owned ECVs. Whether others agree with it or not, there are no written rules regarding privately owned EVCs having more than one passenger, the age of the driver or any other item. That is the way it is. I am NOT saying I agree or disagree with it, but it is the FACT. They do not have a written policy saying that privately owned ECVs cannot have more than one passenger. It is what it is. If you feel so strongly that they should have one, maybe start a petition to have one instituted. But as of right now... a privately owned ECV can have more than one passenger regardless of how other guests 'may feel how wrong or unsafe it is'.

And, no reason for this to be open anymore.
