My mom will be traveling with us in September and is contemplating on getting a scooter due to her bad knees. We are staying in a studio at AKL Kidani - where do you park these things? I can't imagine it being inside the room - can you leave them with the luggage or somewhere in bell hop area?

You really should keep it with you to make sure that it gets charged overnight. And now that Disney has a pretty stringent policy about rentals being left only by preapproved companies, I don't know that bell services will allow you to leave them to be charged there any more. Supposedly if a scooter is found 'sitting around' for any length of time at a resort and it belongs to a company that is not approved for drop off delivery, the unit will be confiscated and the company will have to pay a fee to get the unit back. Now I have not heard of this happening, but I wouldn't chance it. If you rent it, I would keep it with you. There's enough room in the room for you to store/charge it while you are not using it. Good Luck with you trip!! :)

There is no problem in keeping one in a value room. The studios are much larger. You might have to move a chair or table to get a good spot which will not interfere with movement ion the room.

Since an ECV fits in a value room, it will fit in the substantially larger AKL studio.

Bring an extension cord. Put the ECV in front of the connecting door. Plug it into a nearby outlet.

Fyi If you elect to use an extension cord for the ECV be sure that you get one that's rated to carry appropriate current.

This will be our first time staying at AKL so wasn't sure how much room we would have (I can't remember what they looked like from our DVC tour - lol). It sounds like we will have plenty of room then - thank you for your help!!

Good point.
Most ECVs have a pretty long cord on the charger, so you may not run into any issues.

Allears net has some good pictures of the Kidani Village studios here:

You could park it in front of the connecting door or by the couch, if you are not using it as a bed.
If you are renting from one of the 'Preferred Vendors, ' you have options that would include leaving it with Bell Services. It is a very large resort and your walk to your room my be pretty long. We just stayed at Kidani in a 1 bedroom in the farthest part of one wing. Our walk to get to the lobby was almost 10 minutes.

OK - thanks for the allears link! That's helpful - we were looking at either apples scooters or buena vista?

Both of those are Preferred Vendors - you can find out more in post 2 of the disABILITIES FAQs thread near the top of this board - or follow the link in my signature.

Obviously, the ECV will take up some room, but we've had no trouble having one in the room at ASMo (value), POR (mod), or AKL studio (both Jambo and Kidani). You should have no problem keeping it in the room and it's a lot more convenient anyway to have it readily accessible and fully charged in the morning.
