Grammy might be joining us for a week and definitely will need something to get around - she has neuropathy and almost lost a toe this year. I think a scooter would work for her. Is that the same as an ECV? Can anyone recommend an offsite rental since I think that is the way to go. How do the rechargeable batteries work? Do they ever give out in the parks. I'm not worried about her learning to use it, she used to be a school bus driver - lol! Thanks for any help, I'm a novice at this.

Welcome to disABILITIES.
A scooter is the same as an ecv. You will find pictures of them on these sites, which also happen to be the off site companies that DIS posters report renting from:

The steering mechanism for an ecv is similar to steering a bike, so I don't think your grammy will have any trouble (especially if she drove something as big as a bus!). Just have her practice a little bit at the resort before venturing out in public.

An electric wheelchair is different. It is driven with a joystick and takes a little more practice to master. In general, the companies only rent those out to people who have experience driving them (some of them cost 3-4 times as much as an ecv).

thanks for all the links - I already saw Randy's, love the little shade canopy.
