ECV or not

I know this question comes up from time to time. We used to rent a wheelchair for my son with epilepsy, but his seizures are now controlled. I broke my tibial plateau 8/5 and had surgery 8/10. We cancelled our 8/16 trip, but added a few days to our December trip. I thought we could slow the pace since I will only be 4 months post-op. After reading more in groups, not sure I’ll be walking as much as I thought at 4 months. If we decide to do an ECV, will it easily fit in Saratoga & GF 1 bedroom? Anyone have experience with tibial plateau recovery? Current best places to rent ECV. Thanks!

not same issues but I have knee issues if I was at 4 month mark as you I would be using a ECV for sure. have had plenty of room in smaller resorts . offsite for sure Golds has lots of people who say best. down side is you have to meet them at your resort. just go easy on the rest of your party as you will have more get up and go than them. look up one of mamabunny's posts about first time using ECV and that will most of your questions. have a great trip

There is definitely enough room in a one bedroom villa. We have had a rented ECV in a studio, and still had enough space to get around.

I would definitely rent an ECV. Disney is a lot of walking in the best of circumstances, and you don’t want to get stuck somewhere in a park, in so much pain that you can’t even get to the exit. That happened to my mom. She was stubborn about needing an ECV, and we were in MK and she got to the point that she couldn’t move until I rented an in park ECV. The worst part was trying to get back to the resort bus stop at MK and then back to the room from the resort stop. If you rent offsite, you will have it with you. You can park it and walk some if you are up to it, but if you aren't, you will have a way to get around comfortably.

You've gotten some great advice. I've used an ECV at VGF, both 1 BR and a studio. No problem. If you use an ECV, I always recommend you fix something to identify it-like a colored ribbon, scarf (I use a bright pink bandana), etc. Sometimes CMs move ECVs around to tidy up an area while you're on a ride. Or, what's happened to me on my solo trips, is often a CM will offer to bring my ECV over to me "Which one's yours?" as we face a sea of scooters. It's so helpful to be able to say "That one with the pink bandana tied around the handle."

If I can get an ECV in my Pop 2 queen bed room with 4 adults in there I'm sure you can get it into the 1 bedroom- haha! I think an ECV will fit somewhere in any WDW room thankfully. :) I can recommend Gold Mobility as the best and most consistent of any place I've rented from. Scooterbug is the only one that can drop off on property with the Bell service. I rented from them last month and the first scooter they left me was dangerously bad. The replacement one worked but it had definitely had some hard living.

I agree with the others about Gold Mobility being the best. One of the benefits of you meeting them when they drop off the scooter is that they can help you get the seat and tiller in just the right spot for your comfort. They also show you what the different controls do.

When I go to Disney with others, I have them start walking ahead of me. Then I catch up to them and adjust the speed to match their gate/stride. I find this much easier on everyone than the other way round.

I would definetly recommend renting a scooter. It's a ton of walking on the parks. I always use Walker Mobility Scooter Rentals. They meet with you at your resort and have customer friendly drivers. They are the only water resistant scooters right now and my battery life has always lasted me all day as guaranteed from them.
