We are bringing my mother in law to WDW for the first time. She is in need of an ECV. Can we reserve a length of stay ECV pass or no?

Also, can anyone advise me what the best thing is...rent from WDW or an outside party (and which one).

Thanks a lot for the help!

The best think to do is rent from a off site company. You will have use of your ECV 24/7 while at WDW. The only ones that you rent at WDW are at the parks on a first come availability and you can't take it park to park. There are many good places to rent from, We always use www.scootarama.com

I agree with Haley Whippet that if you really need one, it's best to rent from off-site. There is a list of off-site companies in the disABILITIES FAQs thread. Any of those companies would be fine. THey are the ones DIS posters have consistently recommended over the years.

There is a length of stay for strollers where you pay for a number of days in advance and then each day, you can present your card to the stroller rental place and get a stroller without paying again. To answer your question about whether you can do length of stay for ECVs, the answer is no.

We used Scootarama as well when we went to WDW last year. Renting for the week was quite easy. The ECV was waiting at CSR when we checked in and we just left it there when we checked out a week later. Originally, we were going to use Disney transportation but after waiting over an hour the first morning for a bus that was scooter compatible, we decided to use our car. We called Scootarama and they were able to talk us through taking the ECV apart to put into the van. Scootarama was a pleasure to work with.

For us, it was great to use WDW ECV's because we stayed offsite and our rental vehicle would not have help two ECV's which my friend and I required. We also did not want to try to figure out how to assemble/disassemble/reassemble any that could be taken apart to be small enough to fit in the rental vehicle so WDW ECV's worked fine for us. They are new according to the CM we spoke to and not as big and clunky as they used to be she said. We found them very easy to drive and this was our first experience using them at WDW.

For my mother outlaw, we had rented in the past from Walker Mobility. Great customer service and the ECV's were always in great shape with no problems. They were left with bell services and there was no fuss.

During our most recent stay, I rented due to health issues from Randy's Mobility. The guy was adament that he would not leave the scooter with bell services. He smelled of cigarette smoke. The scooter was very dinged up. I did not use it the night that we arrived. We did not charge it that night either, so when it ran out of juice around 2pm at Epcot, I was not happy, but figured that it was my fault for not charging it. The next day, we didn't use it, but it charged for over 24 hours. That following day, by 11am, it pooped out again. When we called to report the issue, we were treated like children and scolded for not calling sooner. :sad2: He said that he could bring a new one the next day. The next day, he showed up with a new scooter that was dinged, but not as bad. This one worked, thankfully. When the day to turn it in came, we asked if we could leave it with bell services, because he offered a pick up time of 3pm. We were planning to leave for home no later than 12pm. It's a long drive from WDW to an hour above Atlanta. He said no. :headache: But, we just decided that if need be, we would get a hotel on the way home if we got too tired. Well, as we were finishing our farewell to the Poly breakfast at Kona, he called and said that he was going to run even later and to leave the scooter with bell services. :rolleyes1 Let's just say that we won't EVER rent from Randy's Mobility again.

Just thought that I would throw those reviews out there for you too. Walker Mobility has been a blessing for us over the course of several trips. Maggie

Sorry to hear you had a bad experience.
Our personal experience with Randy's was very good, so I'm especially disappointed to hear yours was not.
All the companies listed in the FAQs have had occasional bad reports, but the majority of the reports have been good for all. We do want to hear the good and the bad reports though.

I also had a fantastic experience with Scootarama. We will be using them again next month when we return for 11 nights. Last year Scootarama provided us with a scooter that honestly looked like it had just come out of the box. We had considered Randy's Mobility but they refused to leave one at the Bell Desk for us. They said that you must be there to receive the scooter when it is delivered. Since we didn't arrive until 5:30p.m. we would have to wait until the following day for delivery. With my wife's mobility issues we could not wait until the next day for scooter delivery.

We have used Walker's twice now and have had no trouble whatsoever. we used Discount Mobility once and that is all I am going to say about it. We will use Walker's again for any future trips.

Mom was hoping to have her own, but her doctor won't complete the paperwork for her, so she won't be able to get one. Hopefully her 2 new doctors will see things differently and help her get it.

I, too, have used Walker's ontwo occasions and could not have been more pleased with the scooter, their service, or their attitude and policy. I do not want to have to meet a delivery person at a specific time either for delivery or pick up when I am on vacation. Walker uses the bell services to accept and pick it up. Very easy on the renter..

I rented the WDW EVC's in the parks, used my cane for very minimal walking, and borrowed the SSR wheelchair for our day at DTD, on our last trip in 2007.

I wish you could rent WDW's for the trip duration! :goodvibes I really liked WDW EVC's... they are very easy to use, have four wheels, and seem very sturdy (and new)! There is also a large basket on front to hold your items (mine held my bag, cane, my camera case, water bottles, and water spritzer bottle easily)! I also liked that, if your WDW scooter had any trouble, they immediately would bring you a new one out!

I have considered renting off site in 2008 for our trip duration, as we are there for 13 nights, and WDW EVC's are "first come, first serve" (I felt like we had to rush there every AM), but may just stick to the WDW rentals. :confused3 I found thiers to be extremely easy to use and very stable. I also worry about using them on WDW transportation, you always hear such negatives things people have said or done while waiting on the person to load. I am not sure! I know I did like the ease of use and the four wheels that WDW EVC's offered... I noticed a lot of other (offsite rentals) only have three wheels.

Will be staying at CBR...what about ECV on buses? It seems like a hassle so last year I rent in parks each day.I can walk just not 10 miles a day!

When we went in May, my husband didn't want the hassle of taking the ECV from CBR to park, so we rented at the park. When we park hopped, we had troubles a few days finding an ECV and had to go on a wait list. Luckily, they had a wheelchair for me to use, but the ECV was great because of the crutches. I would recommend off-site rental, but I have no experience with that. I know next time I'll for sure do it.

The major problem is, having been looking for a new ECV lately, the Disney ECVs list for $3,000 each or more. They do not ask for identification when you rent one, and usually you are just given your receipt and a key and select the ECV from a line of them. So there is no way to tie a particular person to a particular ECV.

At the gates we are not allowed to let anybody out with a Disney rented stroller, wheelchair or ECV. That is why when you rent in DTD there is a credit card imprint with a large refundable deposit required. This can be a real problem at Park Closing.

When we went in 2005 we stayed at OKW. The CMs in at the hospitality house gave us the name of a company. They delivered it to the hospitality house and picked it up there when our trip ended. The bus system was great. The buses lowered to street level and my father inlaw just drove his evc right on. It was the exact same price as renting them in the parks and we had it 24/7. Now I have to look back into our records for the name of the company we used because our next trip is April 28.

Some of them are priced lower, so you should call ahead.

::yes::
You can compare prices and types of ECVs by looking at the websites for off-site companies listed in the disABILITIES FAQs thread.

Hi does anyone know if you can bring scooters and ecv's onto the monorail to go between parks

Yes.
There is a monorail car that has a wider door opening. The CMs also have a small portable ramp to get over the bump at the door.
I have some pictures, I can see if I can get them up.
