ECV Battery ?

It looks like this year my mom will need an ECV to tour the parks. She has some mobility (she doesn't have an ECV at home). So I was wondering since most of the off-site ECVs break down to fit in cars, if it's possible to just carry the ECV battery in at night to charge? Do you have to drive the entire ECV into the hotel room to charge it at night? I figure the hotel room will be pretty crowded without the ECV in the way. Since we sill have our car there, it seems like it might be beneficial to just leave the main portion of the ECV in our trunk over night. Not to mention that I might need an ECV as well by the end of the trip since I'm on dialysis. Just trying to plan out everything. Thanks.

In most cases you have to bring the ECV into the room because the battery requires the charger built into the ECV.

Particularly with an ECV you rented, you do not want to do a makeshift hookup such as with a separate miniature chartger you brought with you.

Most of the rentals are "full-size" and have two batteries which must be hooked up through the ECV for charging. If the batteries are fairly new and the person using the ECV weighs a lot less than the capacity of the ECV it is possible to get two Park days on a singlee charge.

If you get a "tranportable" ECV such as the Pride Go-Go series the battery pack does not have to be on the ECV, as the charger plugs directly into the battery pack. However, depending on which model you gret the battery pack can weigh anywhere from 24 to 40 pounds. And it is much smaller than the trwo separate batteries on a standad ECV and definitely must be charged every night.

Thanks! That's great information. Carrying the battery won't be a problem. My dad will be with us and he's a strong guy. I'll definitely look into the Pride Go-Go. If anyone hears or has knowledge of any other ECV's where the batteries will charge without the actual ECV, I'd appreciate the info.

We rent from Scootarama (fabulous!) and always have the Pride Revo. This nimble little scooter breaks down (new ones breakdown into 5 pieces EASILY) which makes is soooooo easy to slide into your trunk.

You can take the batteries alone up to the room and charge them - designed to do that. We stay at EPCOT resorts because we enjoy the convenience of 2 resorts without transportation.....but when we use the car often, DH always carries the batteries back to the room vs. unloading the scooter. It's an easy walk - with the handicapped tag you have free valet at the hotels.


Tips -

First thing when you arrive and find your scooter......take some time to make sure the driver is comfortable operating it. Drive it out to a quiet part of the parking lot.....get used to driving it backwards and in tight spaces. Make sure you understand how to manage the speed. Many accidents happen because the driver has the speed set too fast for the area operating.

First time you rent a scooter take advice from my DH. He actually downloaded the operating manual from the manufacturer's website. This was how he discovered the batteries could be charged without the scooter, and how to remove the arms (more comfortable for me without arms).

The manual will be there to help answer questions which may arise.


I used the same online manual for measurements. I decorate my little scooter (if I have to be STUCK in it, I might as well have FUN....lemons to lemonaid). I made a pouch which attaches to the seat. The pouch carries everything everone else doesn't want to carry. I add a bike bell, little squeaky horn and basket decor (flower garland for F&G and holiday garland for our December trip).

Hopefully your room won't be too far from the parking lot. As far as the ECV taking up a lot of space in the hotel room, we stay at POFQ and have not had a problem with the scooter in the room. We would remove one of the chairs and place it next to the sink in the bathroom/closet area and place the ECV in its place between the table and the AC unit. We didn't have a problem despite four people staying the room.
