I will be taking my first solo trip in Nov, and I will be using an ECV. I can walk, just not far. I am wanting to take a couple of trips off-site, such as to see the Titanic exhibit. I know Mears has some taxis that can handle ECVs, but what is the procedure? Should I call the day before to arrange pickup, or can I call the day of? Do I need to set up a definate return time? I don't necessarily know how long I'll want to be there.

You don't need to pre-order an accessible taxi, however, if you don't you may need to expect to wait a bit. I know when I used Mears the time I didn't call and ask for a specific time I ended up waiting about 45 minutes for a taxi because they said all the accessible ones were on the other side of either WDW or Orlando or were in use. I suspect if you're at a very busy time, it could be an even longer wait. That said, I never called to pre-order a taxi more than an hour in advance so it's not like you need to plan ages before.

Last I heard Mears has over 20 accessible taxis. However, they may not all be available.

Note that almost all ECVs can be broken down into five or six parts and will fit in the trunk of a normal taxi. If you know what you are doing, you can supervise the driver at both ends of the trip.

When I have traveled with an ECV and use a driver (or valet) to beak it down and load it into the trunk, or unload and reassemble it, I will normally tip more than a normal amount for the extra work done.
