ECV and Resorts

Hello!

I've researched a bit into the various resorts with the ECV and I'm still confused. My mom and I are planning to go to WDW next year at some point and will be getting an ECV for her. We're trying to not spend a ton of money, and we were initially thinking of going with a value resort. Our concerns with this one are the ECV not fitting into the room (there's only going to be 2 of us so this might not be an issue?) and the possibility of noise and dogs. I'm not too fond of strange dogs. Our other choice for a room was at the French Quarter resort but we're not sure if we want to spend that much more money.

Mom hasn't been to WDW since she was younger and I haven't been ever so we're trying to make good memories but also not spend tons!

Disney doesn't allow dogs anywhere but Yacht Club, I think. And maybe the campgrounds?

To be cost effective, I would price out renting at a local mobility store. I've locally rented a powerchair for weeks, and I'm an able-bodied human with a credit card.

Most Disney hotels are old and not great with noise. BUT they have accessible transportation, so you have to decide what matters more to you.

ECV can mean a lot of things, from a powerchair which will fit anywhere to a giant scooter. Even a giant scooter should fit in Disney rooms.

Thank you erion for the link, I never saw that one!

We're looking at a scooter that can fit around 300 pounds so it'll definitely be on the bigger side I assume! We're going to be renting from an outside company to make sure we always have it.

I'd go with POFQ if you possibly can.

We've never stayed in a Value, but I know that school groups typically stay in those. You're much more likely to have noise in a Value than in POFQ, its theme being more appealing to adult couples, thus likely to be quieter.

Disney rooms are generally plenty big enough to park a scooter, particularly with only two of you in the room. Do be sure it's in the room and not in the hall outside your room as some do (but aren't supposed to). We once saw some unsupervised kids with candy and sodas climbing and playing on a scooter in the hall. I bet it was a sticky mess when the user got back to it. Not to mention could have been damaged.

Considering your wants/needs, I would recommend Pop Century… technically a value but I would say is between a value and a “not quite moderate”, price wise. Easy access by Skyliner to Epcot and HS. Buses for MK and AK are decent. Access to food courts at Pop and Art of Animation is a plus. You will have no issues fitting even the largest rental scooter in the room…. I speak from experience.

I have owned DVC for many years, but if I need to add a day here or there, Pop is my first choice.

You should have no problem fitting an ECV into a value resort room. There have been folks who fit 2 ECVs. It may be a bit tight when the murphy bed is down, but put that up each morning for easier maneuverability in/out of the room. Park either by the window or in front of the connecting door (or the area where that door would be).

Noise is honestly possible at any resort and largely depends on other guests. Nothing you can really control. I haven't stayed deluxe but we've had just as many noisy neighbors at mods and quiet neighbors at values.

As mentioned above, random dogs at the resort should not be much of an issue as they are only allowed at 4 WDW resorts. If you want a value resort maybe choose POP or an All Star. Just be aware that service dogs are allowed at any resort.
