Economy Sticking a Cake Fork in Bridezilla?

Weddings are expensive and with the worsening economy it will be interesting to see how the wedding industry is affected. Maybe it will force DFTW to hold off on raising their prices so much each year! (I can dream, right? )

My big day is quite far in the future, so I have lots of time to plan and save, and hope that the economy recovers!

Is the economy affecting your wedding plans? What are you doing to work around the rising prices of everything? What is your best money-saving wedding tip?

That's an interesting article. Funny, when I was talking to a photographer he said the had more dates booked in 2009 already then he did for 2008. I think research is the best way to save money. Luckily it's so easy with The Internet.

Is it ever! DF and I are definately dancing around our budget, constantly cutting prices where we can. Due to our lovely economy I'm out of a job (i worked in the school systems, and in my county alone we've had a several million dollar budget cut for the upcoming year...a lot of us lost our jobs) And forget finding a new one! I've put out 46 applications in the last 3 weeks...Not a single bite. Its ridiculous right now. Plus, DF is in sales, and with the economy, no one is buying...so his income is less. So all in all, we're out 1 whole income and the second one has been drastically reduced.
We've made a lot of cuts, mostly little stuff. For instance, I'm foregoing the $150 veil i REALLY wanted, opting for a $10 one from the craft store and gluing rhinestones on myself. I've also dug up a $15 crystal headband on ebay instead of the more expensive one I wanted. No monogrammed stationary here, plain old thank you notes are cheaper. ( i REALLY wanted the monogrammed notes though ) Cutting out certain dishes from the reception in order to keep our BEO as close to the minimum as possible, handmaking our invites (thanks Cards & Pockets!), buying miscellaneous items from the craft store ONLY when they're 50% off. (I've turned into a serious bargain hunter with this wedding! lol), coupon clipping, offer searching, etc etc etc....

you get the idea...the economy is making this more of a combat mission than a planning session! But it is still fun in its own little way!

You would think... but then again they continue to raise their ticket prices sometimes more than once a year. Not to mention the costs of things like renting strollers which keeps going up as well. You would also think that at least a positive side effect of these price increases would be that less people would go and there would be less crowds... but nope! I keep waiting for the increased gas prices to result in less traffic... but if anything the roads seem more crowded!

The other thing to consider is that since travel has become SO much more expensive - plane travel and cruises come to mind - maybe people will need to cut back on their honeymoons as well. I get more depressed every day about this economy.

One of the things that we did was reuse the Disney floral that we had for 3 events! I can't begin to tell you how much that saved. I also did alot of DIY items. I think pics of some of them are in my PJ.

Sorry about your job loss! I hope you find something soon. Good for you-- becoming a budgeting bride! It is fun hunting down all those bargains! I love the thrill of finding a great deal and getting something for a great price!

I know! I keep expecting less people due to rising ticket costs and fuel costs. Maybe it just hasn't caught up to most people yet. I think the travel industry will decline in a few more months as the economy gets worse and people start cutting out luxuries like travel. I decided to forgo my September trip to WDW due to the economy. I could have afforded it, but decided to save the money just because I don't know what the economy will do.

I wonder if they have a different definition of middle-class than I do? I cringed when I read that! And then I fantasized about what I could do with that kind of money. A once-in-a-lifetime trip around the world was at the top of that list, followed by paying off my mortgage!

Great idea for multi-use floral! I'll have to keep that in mind!

The thing about WDW is, when the US economy is bad and the dollar is weak, it's SUPER cheap for travelers from outside the US to come to Disney - their money goes further so they get a bargain... Bad for us, good for them, and Disney keeps on going....

OH yeah the economy throwing a wrench in my wedding planning. I'm still mulling over whether or not to have an actual disney wedding or a cinderella themed wedding. I only have a budget of about 15K but I'm not sure if I could get my money to go further with a wedding here in Virginia. A wedding in FL would require hotel stays, plane tickets. BUT I am set on a Disneymoon or a Disney Cruise Honeymoon.
