Eco friendly TB

I could probably do a heck of a lot more for the enviroment than I do now. We use the flourescent bulbs, recycle every week, Mom has a garden, I use a Brita filter at work instead of bottled water, and I try to reuse stuff and save energy whenever possible, but I still use waaaay too much electricity, and don't always remember to unplug my computer at night. Some days I'll think about it and take a short, low-water-use shower, but some days I can't resist a hot, fifteen/twenty minute shower at the end of the day. And I'm too set in my hand-washing ways to cut back and not completely freak out. So basically... I'm trying, but I've definitely got a long way to go. :[

(One thing I always try to do, though, and it's probably going to sound pathetic and useless, but everytime I order iced tea at McDonalds I ask for them to put it in one of the plastic iced-coffee cups. Screw keeping the stuff cold for three hours; I'll be finished with it long before then, and the less demand for styrofoam the better, even if it's just a single person. But I'm thinking of starting a petition, actually. If everyone started asking for plastic cups instead of styrofoam, that might help a lot more than you'd think.

Oh, and that's the thing drives me nuts about Starbucks-- all those iced drinks being served in recyclable cups, and not a recycling bin in sight. All the trash cans are brimming with cups headed for a million-year stay in a landfill, when all they need is a plastic bucket marked with a triangle to catch them all. A lot of places have recycling pick-up, and if not, surely it wouldn't cost *that* much to have somebody bring the stuff to a center or something. I'm glad my mom doesn't go there any more. Some Starbucks might do it, but not enough that I've seen. :worried:)

I actually think thats worse. Beacause the normal cups are paper(It's like a heavy-duty) and you can recycle those but you can also plant more trees to get more paper. Plastic can be recycled but there is only so much plastic that can be made(I mean plastic isn't made naturally like paper). That is just what I think.

OFF TOPIC :

Eddie Izzard once said something like:

The earth is FINE.
Its been around for over a billion years, you know what, i just think everyones afraid of people going extinct.
The earth is fine, it will reclean itself, animals go extinct thats just a part of evolution

--
Or something like that.

Anywho, i wish i could find it somewhere but, i kinda agree with that.
The earth will be FINE.
Its just us.

I'm trying not to sound preachy here, so please bear with me if I am.

Even if nothing is wrong, I don't see a problem in becoming conscious about environmental surroundings. No one knows what the result of this could be, so does it hurt to try?

Those can be recycled? I didn't know that. And that's true about their being from a renewable source; the plastic are way worse right now, you're right, since they're made of petroleum. (Which I didn't even know until about five minutes ago.) Though if they ever get around to using 'bioplastic' cups that would be great. And it'd also be better if those paper cups were (if they aren't now) made of bamboo or some other easily-replenished wood, because it still takes a lot of energy to raise the wood, harvest and ship it, and manufacture those cups. (But for now, I'll probably just make my tea at home. Heh.)

Also, this discussion's got me reading more about plastics and their impact on the environment in general, and it's quite interesting. :O
