Eclipse during my trip!

We are driving from south florida to TN to see it at 100% We are planning on staying in Franklin which is a little south of the best areas and see what the weather will be like to head toward gallatin or there about. If we have to go further we will. We are bring glasses, film, the smaller telescope and hope for good weather.

Down here it will be only 70%=just not enough. I am excited to go and plan to of course pop by WDW on the way back home and hopefully hit TL for a few hours!

I have read many reports that even 99% is a poor comparison. I believe it said it's like the difference between midnight vs early sunset for the amount of light in the sky.

We live in Greenville, SC, a decent size city in the path of totality. They are expecting a ton of visitor traffic.

As for the glasses, I'm not so excited about those. I've got them. But seeing the sun shape doesn't sound as cool to me as the sudden 360 sunset and darkness.

Did someone say dessert party?

In Orlando you won't notice much, kind of like it is a bit cloudy perhaps. If you don't have proper glasses or want to take a picture the best option is a pinhole viewer. Take a sheet of paper or cardstock and poke a single hole in it. Then angle it so that it projects a clear image on a flat surface such as a table or sidewalk. That will be an image of the sun with the moon in front of it, it will look like a crescent. You can take a picture of that. Obviously don't look directly at the sun, but also don't try to take a direct picture of the sun as it can damage your camera's image sensor if you don't have a proper filter lens. The only time you can look at an eclipse without eye protection is during totality when the sun is completely covered, not a second before or after.

You *can* still buy verified glasses at places like Bi-Mart, Fred Meyer, Target, Lowe's, Home Depot etc. for roughly $2. I bought a few extra glasses just in case someone nearby that day might need a pair!

Where we live we'd see 99.5% totality, and planned to make the short drive to be in the 100% path, buuuuut as luck would have it I need to be in GA that week. So I'll be around Blue Ridge/Blairsville/Hiawassee to see it instead, clear skies willing :yay:

Love the Vox link. I think it'll be a great sight to see (with protective eyewear, of course ;) ) regardless of your area.

Hiawassee is in the 100% path so you're traveling directly to it!!

Does anyone know if Disney has anything special planned for the eclipse? Are they selling Disney themed viewing glasses?

I'm so excited I will be there on the day of the eclipse, even though from Disney, it will only be a partial one.
