I had to cancel some flights recently with Delta due to medical issues. We were given the "ecertificates" that have an expiration date of Feb 15, 2011 even though the flights were supposed to be this summer (2010). Is that expiration date the fly by date to reuse that money or is it the have the money committed to a new ticket by date?

Thanks!

You could call Delta to confirm, but it's likely the 'fly by' date. When did you buy the now-cancelled tickets? The expiration date you have may be one year from that date.

Fly by = complete all travel by

I bought the tickets in Feb 2010, so that is where they are getting the expiration date. I tried doing a dummy booking for a week after the expiration online and it let me do it, so I will call and confirm.

We purchased tickets in November for March flights, but after cancelling, we had to use them by the original purchase date, thus a trip this fall.

With Delta it's always been "travel must be completed by one year from the original purchase date." Haven't had to deal with a Delta exchange in a while, not sure if they've changed that.
