EBTA 2014...Across the Atlantic we go!!!

Where did you go on your vacations? I love traveling and listening to the places other people have been.

No where too exciting. We caught the WDW bug and went there 5-6 times in the last 3 years, and Jay and I also went to Italy for 2 weeks, I loved Rome.

Last Feb we booked a WDW trip and found a bargain 3 day DCL cruise in the middle. We hadn't cruised before and wanted to do a short cruise to make sure we would enjoy one before booking a longer cruise.

Our last trip was WDW and a 7 day Fantasy cruise. Jay and I both said we could have used another 7 days on the cruise;) So I think a transatlantic will be perfect.

I haven't done a cruise longer than 3 days, but I'm taking Samantha (9) in Jan on the Fantasy. Hopefully I love the sea days.

I'm convinced I have to go back to Rome. You are the 3rd or 4th person that has said you loved Rome. I hated Rome and Venice, but I loved Tuscany. I'll need to go back and give Rome another chance. If I like the TA 2014, maybe I will do it again in 2015 and tour Italy again. It could have been that I was just exhausted or that it was the middle of summer. Early June may be a better time to go there. My mom went in Nov and loved it. What time of year did you go?

We were there at the end of October beginning of November the weather was great and the crowds were not to bad.

We really loved our cruise on the Fantasy. The sea days were great.

We did the Panama Canal cruise in 2008. Lots of sea days. It remains the greatest vacation we have experienced to date. Disney kept us as busy or as relaxed as we wanted to be. We're hoping for a similar experience.

Julianna (11) really wants to do the PC cruise, so I am so glad to know it was your favorite vacation!! She saw the camel riding in Cabo and has been pining to go ever since.

I am getting more and more excited for this cruise:cool1:

That makes me feel better. :)

I will definitely give Rome another try. 2015 Italy and Switzerland are two of the countries on our list. Hopefully, I will fall in love with Rome like everyone else. :goodvibes I loved Switzerland, but how could you not love a country known for chocolate.;)

We had 3 sea days on our Fantasy cruise and there was so much to do we didn't get much down time. With 6 sea days I think we will have more time to relax :)

We also went to Sorrento, but we didn't like that area as much as Florence and Rome. Switzerland is on my list there are too many places to see;)

Florence was ok, but I had gone to Pisa first. Tourist trap central!! I have the pics to say I was there and I will never go back. Thank goodness we got there first thing in the morning. As I was leaving, there were a ton of people pouring into that little area. Then I got to Florence and there was a pick up no rules soccer match going on in the middle of the town. Packed with people but, I have some great stories from Florence, so I guess there is that.

Once I found the water and the village across the water, Florence was amazing. I just think the timing was all wrong in Florence and if I went back, it would be one of my favorite cities in Italy. I think April and May would be a good time to head back there.

I have never been to Sorrento nor Milan (although I don't have much of a desire to go there either) I did do the Italian Riviera and while I found the people friendlier than Rome, I couldn't see myself heading back there again. I would go to Tuscany again and again.

I agree there are too many places to see. I seem to be doing a lot of repeats because either my children weren't invited or didn't want to go the first time. They want to go only after they have seen the pictures.

I agree completely

Which towns were your favorite?
We stayed in Basel, Luzern, Gimmelwald, Lausanne, and Murten. I especially enjoyed Gimmelwald.

Zermatt and Montreux were my favorites, so far. I want to get back to the towns I missed. Montreux because you have to love a Switzerland city with Palm trees. Zermatt is where I went zip lining and paragliding off the Matterhorn. Plus, I loved the quaintness of the town. And I was able to find chocolate fondue with strawberries. Best one I ever had :goodvibes

I invited my kids the first time I went and they declined. I came home with pictures and they all wanted to go. So, I end up with a lot of repeat countries and attractions. I don't mind though. Most cities I come home from, I seem to want to revisit. With the exception of Venice. Burano was wonderful, Venice was not so much.

We went on a daytrip to Montreux. Lovely town! We toured the Chateau de Chillon, saw the statue of Freddie Mercury, and had fantastic crepes for lunch.

While we did not go to the Matterhorn on this trip, we visited Jungfraujoch.

Some friends in Switzerland just sent us some Läderach chocolates. Yum!

Are you staying in Europe once off the cruise? If so what are your plans?

Hello all!

My family and I are joining in on the fun (me, dw, ds(4), dd(1)).

We are going to do a back to back with the med on the back end (obviously!) This just seems like the best way to afford to see some of Europe with the little ones while retaining some semblance of sanity!

Looking forward to it!

I looked at doing the B2B as well. You will have to keep in touch after and tell us how it worked out. I thought it was more expensive, but then I realized touring London and DLP is much more expensive. However, I know my girls would like to see UK, Ireland and everyone wants to hit Disneyland Paris. We loved it and the French kids should still be in school.

If my kids were younger, I would do the cruise B2B. No wait, that isn't true. When my kids were younger I ditched them (lovingly) and toured countries.

Anyway, I was thinking about doing this so do let me know if you felt like you had enough time to explore the cities. That is my biggest concern about a cruise of Europe.
