Thought some folks might like to see a few old photos of the Canal. We found these when we were closing Fort Clayton for the turn over of the Panama Canal in 1999.

Thanks for posting these! My great grandfather was stationed in the Panama Canal Zone in the early 1920's and my grandmother was born there. It was neat to see what it might have looked like during their time there.

Thanks for organizing the ornament exchange! :) I'd be happy to help if you need it! I've never been active with a DIS group either so we can be newbies together! :)

May I suggest we choose a day other than the last sea day for the exchange? Perhaps you are better organized than me, :) but I know I'll probably be busy getting everything packed on that day since we arrive in Miami bright and early the next morning. May I suggest that we hold the exchange on Day 6 or 7? We have four sea days in a row (Day 5-8), so perhaps an activity in the midst of them would be fun? Just a thought.....But if everyone else prefers the last sea day for the exchange, then I'll just make it work! :)

We would be in for the ornament exchange too!! We love x-mas ornaments, in fact we pit up a couple of trees each year to accommodate them! It's fun to look back on how we got them. Some have come down from family long ago. We would love to have one from this adventure!
We would also love to get in on the Panama Canal certificate too.

We normally "retire" it after 3 steals but I'm fine with changing up the rules a bit. We always let the person who has number 1 go last again but we can mention the rules before we start.

Thanks for volunteering to organize. I think that 3 steals would make it more fun.

Hey guys, my awesome in-laws booked this cruise while we were on the Hawaiian Cruise. Please welcome them when the enter here and on Facebook. They love Disney Cruising!!!! Enjoy everyone, our next is Alaska…..

Count us in on the ornament exchange. I like the idea of day 6 or 7. I've never done a 2 week cruise before, but I always seem so rushed on the last day of our 7 days ones. Busy packing, final kids events, etc...

Please feel free to steal it! The more Christmas trees I see, the happier I am. If anyone would like me to print them one, I would be more than willing to. Just bring some strips of sticky magnets to add to the back and I could hand it over at the meeting or leave it at your door. I printed mine as ANSI C sized because I wanted room on the door for other signs and magnets but I can print larger. Just let me know.

I would love a tree for our door:thumbsup2 What a nice offer! What size magnetic ornaments are you making for yours?

Would anyone be interested in doing an ornament exchange? Each person brings a wrapped ornament (we normally set a $5 limit) and everyone draws a number and then you trade or steal and everyone ends up with an ornament. It can be lots of fun and the larger the group the better! We could do it towards the last sea day close to Christmas. Just a thought

Count us in on the ornament exchange. I'll bring one for each member of the family as I know the girls will love it! :cloud9: Thanks!

Welcome Roxy & Family! You'll need to post 9 more times before you can send a pm - but the 9 times can be on any thread on the boards, you're not restricted to this one!

There were 100 cabins in fe on the Hawaii in 6 groups. We gave all 100 (not everybody did) - and were still receiving fe gifts on the last night.

Thanks for the info! I do have a few (lol) questions so 9 should not be hard.

The FE and ornament exchange (would that be OE?) sounds like so much fun I would love to participate, guess I need to learn how to make the hanger mailbox thing too :-)

Good Morning, Happy Cruisers!

Off to a scrapbooking weekend with some Connecticul Disers today. Hope the rain holds off until AFTER I get settled in. It's rained every day this week, so far.

Roxy, if you search around the boards, there are instructions both of a 'sew' and a 'no-sew' Fish extender. One lady even made hers from colored duct tape! Or, you might find "wall pockets" at a dollar store that you could alter.

Happy Day, ALL!

You got it! We can figure out later when you want to pick it up. I will cut it for you so all you will need is the magnets. I think I am planning on making 2" diameter ornaments

ornament exchange (would that be OE?)
OE it is!

Does day 7 (sea day) work for everyone? Any special time? I was thinking around 2 o'clock. If people don't mind, could you please PM me with the number of people attending, that way I know a general group size to figure out a place to host it (I'm sure my inside cabin won't do :rotfl2:) Remember each person attending needs to bring an ornament.

DVCinderella-anyway you can add this to the special events post #79? Thanks!

We'd like to be in for the "OE" also. Even with the tight luggage allowance, I think I can manage to bring one ornament and take one home :rotfl2: !

Early afternoon on Day 7 sounds perfect! I'll PM you later when I know how many will be attending from our cabin.

As for a place to host our ornament exchange, what about Diversions on Deck 3? It is the family lounge where games are played. It always seemed empty whenever I would drop by during the day. Then again, maybe it wouldn't be appropriate if other cruisers are trying to enjoy a quiet board game with our bunch barging in. :rotfl: Does anyone know if we can reserve a room for a special event?

DVCinderella-anyway you can add this to the special events post #79? Thanks!
Perhaps it could also be added to page one so that newcomers can find it when they join our thread.

Perfect! Now I can be prepared to decorate it:) I didn't want to make my ornaments and not have them fit well.
Day 7 sea day sounds good to me, I will PM you later when I figure out how many from my group will be coming to the OE:goodvibes

I have a big knit Christmas stocking that my mom had personalized with our family name, so I'll use it for our FE. I also thought about using our personalized Christmas stockings as an FE, but I don't know how to hang three separate stockings from the FE hook. Any ideas?

The only time I participated in the FE I made a beautiful hanger. We spent a week at WDW before the cruise, and I realized that my FE was already hanging...on my bedroom door at home.:sad2:. So my DGD made me go shopping with her to pick something out at Downtown Disney that might work. We bought a lovely pink Pirate Christmas stocking. I knew she had ulterior motives because when I got home after the cruise she asked if she could have it for her stocking for that year. That was in 2007, and it's still her Christmas stocking!

No Problem

Good Idea!

Diversions sounds like a good idea. Does anyone know if there is a way to reserve a room? I would hate for everyone to arrive only to discover that there is another Disney event going on in that room during that period (trivia or something?) Does anyone have experiance with this?

You are able to steal the item from another, but after the 2nd steal, that item is off limits to take by anyone else.

We normally "retire" it after 3 steals but I'm fine with changing up the rules a bit. We always let the person who has number 1 go last again but we can mention the rules before we start.

Perhaps the # of steals allowed will depend upon the # of people participating. We've been involved in "White Elephant" exchanges with a huge group and it took forever for the last person to get to open his gift because of all the stealing. It was fun, but long.

I think we are going to use stockings as well for our FE - I was going to bring Command hooks to hang them up, I'm hoping underneath the Fish, but if not maybe I can hang them on the door.

Hi everyone. I'm looking into this cruise but it all depends on the weather :scared1: Coming from the UK we've had enough of rain :rolleyes1

So, I'm thinking of cancelling our summer Orlando holiday to do this.

Is it a warm time of year for this cruise i.e sunbathing by the pool or woolly jumpers and an umbrella? pirate:

It should be VERY warm once we get south of California. The nights on the water will be a bit cool, but I think the air temperatures in Mexico, down to and through the canal, in Cartagena and Costa Maya should be pleasantly warm. We were in Cozumel, Mexico and it was hot!

I hope that helps you make a decision, and I surely hope we don't need woolley jumpers ;) !

On the Mexican Riviera cruise in December, it was breezy and cool on the pool deck. People still swam; many were wrapped in blankets lying in the loungers. :) I didn't swim in the pools, so I can't share what the water temp was like, although the hot tub was divine! In the ports of Cabo & Puerto Vallarta, it was beautiful weather! We swam and rented a jet ski in Cabo. I imagine the further south we venture, the warmer it will be on deck of the ship.
