I've been reading these threads and am wondering if we need to buy the EBCI or not? We are a party of 4, 2 adults and DN 12yo and DGS 2. Do we all get to board together because of DGS or just my DD and him? We are buying him a seat and taking his car seat so my DD will need help while she's installing the car seat to keep him still, he can get very restless in new places sinc he's autistic and this is the first time he is flying. Would we need those blue sleeve things? Not sure how he is going to react to flying yet but he's usually well behaved in his carseat. I have no qualms about buying the EBCI if needed but don't want to buy them if not needed. What would you all do? TiA

I cannot remember how many people can pre-board with a medical preboarder.

The blue sleeve thing is supposedly only for two people. When SWA does family boarding, it's between the A-listers and the B-listers, but if there's too many young families (especially on your return flight out of Orlando) they often don't do family boarding at all.

So yes, I would buy the EBCI then all four of you can board together, and on your return flight you won't have to worry about finding a computer to check you in at the 24-hour check-in time. the EBCI automatically checks you in, then you just print your boarding passes when you get to the airport.

Have never flown on Southwest but will this trip in Nov. From everything I've read on this forum (very helpful and many thanks by the way) I would suggest buying the EBCI so that you can all sit together. You can also print your boarding pass from your home 24 hours in advance of the flight.

Why does the 2 year old need to board early? If he can't hold still, the two of you should wait until boarding is almost done, then get on the plane. Get EBCI for Mom and your niece and they can board with the car seat. Take three seats in one row and the aisle seat on the other side.

Exactly! whenever we flew and if my DH was with us then 1 parent would board and get situated and the other would stay out as long as possible.

As long as she has the carseat in a seat the 2yr old is going to be beside her.

Thank you all for your suggestions, I'll be getting the EBCI. Lost and Hannathy, we can't let Mom go ahead, he would have a fit if he sees her walking away and disappearing from his sight. An autistic child is not like other kids that you can reason with and explain that we will be reunited with Mom soon. That is not going to happen. The last thing we need is one of his tantrums in the middle of boarding. He's more liable to sit still with me while Mom puts in his seat as long as she is within his line of vision. Thanks again.

You may want to consider going on then with the carseat and letting Mom and toddler stay out a bit longer. You could hook the car seat in and then she can come with child later. Just an idea, have a good trip.

That wouldn't work either, when Mom and I are together he expects us to stay together. You should see the things we have to do just to get out of the house while he is awake. He sees us as an unseparable team. We all live together and that is what he is used to, autistic children are very regimented when it comes to schedules and routines. So us separating is out of the question. We are learning by trial and error on how to handle him, its not easy. We're trying to figure out how to be able to put his little backpack in the bin without him having a fit. Thanks for the suggestion anyway.
