Ebay, what am I missing?

I know,I see that ALOT too. Im thinking that they are purchasing it through some rewards or cash back link (example Bing). Ebay is one of the cash back stores for some of these sites. So, if its 20% back, and they pay 550.00, they get back that amount, so, the cost is only actually 440.00.

I buy stuff on ebay. What are these websites that give you cash back for shopping at ebay?

As the PP mentioned, Bing is one website. I never could get it to work though.

I use Ebates but the cash back is no where near 20%. Its closer to 2%-4% I think. Also consider that Ebay also gives a small percentage back.

There is also a probability of fraud.

- buyer is using a stolen credit card / PayPal account and wants to get something worth cash before someone notices and his access gets turned off.

- buyer claims to never have received gift card or says it was never loaded with money and blames seller. EBay has a strong history of siding with buyers so unless seller was careful to get both delivery confirmation (with a signature) and has a photocopy of the gift card along with a receipt from the store purchased showing the gift card's serial number and the fact that it was loaded with money, buyer will end up with a gift card free of charge.

- buyer and seller might be acquaintances or even the same person and use this as a way to launder money through the system.

Or, it could be completely legitimate but I tend to be a bit cynical so I'll stick with my various conspiracy theories... :lmao:

bing.com is great. I've used it LOTS for ebay and others. As long as you do a Buy It Now and go through the bing.com link, the percentage is currently 8%. I used it for one ebay purchase that I got $200 back (on 12/1/08 they had a special 30% cashback, so I jumped on it).

As far as the rewards programs, that's possible, but it's been that way for as long as I can remember - many years (long before bing came into the picture, can't say for the others). I've never been able to figure it out either. :confused3

I've wondered this same thing. I'm all about saving even small amounts . . . but it doesn't seem worthwhile to buy, say, a $50 gift card for $48 and pay shipping on top of it. It's not worth your time, and there IS the possibility of being cheated.

I don't think the rebate thing is common enough to make these deals worthwhile.

I can only assume that people get caught up in the auction and over-spend. But that can't account for ALL THESE CARDS!

I just don't understand this.

But, I think that certain Keywords only work with the Ebay Items, but, I could be wrong. These were taken from another board for some examples back in 2009....These cash back purchases on Ebay are currently NOT active, I believe!

35% cash back from eBay purchase using Microsoft Live Search
Only applies to Buy It Now items paid for using PayPal. For example, go to http://www.live.com/ (type it into your browser, don't click the link in this post) and search for a Wii. Check the paid results at the top and right for a link to eBay with the "live search cashback" icon. Click it, find a Buy It Now auction for a Wii (or whatever you want for that matter). Discount should be listed on checkout page.

As far as Bing.com goes, you can go to bing and do a search for wii. It will come up with a link to ebay at 8% (at least the last time I checked). Once you go through that link, you can buy whatever you want and get your cashback (as long as it's a BIN). I've done it many, many times.

Sometimes key words do give different cashback amounts, so you kind of have to check around, but once you click through the link you get that % back (whatever it happened to be). The Goldrush promotion was 10% (I used that one too). Most of the time it's 8%.

I use BIN quite a bit and have never failed to get my cashback (and I have never bought a Wii! ;)). :goodvibes

Some people also end up with a discount code from Ebay or Paypal.

There for they can buy a $100 gc, for $105 and still come out ahead since they are only paying $94.50 and they could be earning rewards as well from some other site.
