I sold an item and shipped it 2 day priority with DC. I sent him the DC# and the day it was supposed to be delivered he message me back saying "Perfect. Thank you!". then a few days latter he message me asking about the item, the DC shows it in transit. when I message the USPS about it, they said it could be the mail carrier could've forgotten to scan at the last point.
Part of me is being paranoid the guy saw the hold up and through to capitalized(his feedback is all positive tho) even though he got it.
If this did get lost in the mail, how responsible am I if I have all the paperwork that I shipped it on time, with proper shipping as promised and the DC# shows it the USPS was at fault is lost?
The whole message from the day he was supposed to get it really throws me off the whole he didn't get it theory.

Let it sit. You have delivery confirmation and as long as you shipped it to the address on the pay transaction you should be cover by Seller's protection.

I assume if you did not pay directly from within ebay, that you uploaded the tracking number to the transaction.

If the tracking number shows acceptance and more, then USPS accepted the package. If it only says electronic information received, then the package never got scanned and you might have more problems since you'll have to prove you actually mailed the package.

Priority mail is not 2 day guaranteed. Contact eBay for more help.

The tracking fizzled out at the sorting facility near him.
You actually calmed my nerves a bit. I should look at the seller protection.

I work for the USPS and Priority Mail now comes with a $50 insurance and free tracking. If the item is under $50 you can get the insurance from the USPS as it would be their fault.

Parcel count is very high right now and unfortunately scans do get missed. The post office that is sending out the package for the "last mile" should have scanned it accepted at that office. Then the carrier will scan it at the customers door which should be the final scan.

Did the package arrive at their local post office? Or was it last at there regional sorting facility?

Keep in mind, when you sell something, you are responsible for the item until the buyer receives it. If it's lost on the mail, the buyer gets his money back and you have to fight the shipping company.

The sorting facility. I sent an email to the USPS. but what weird is the guy sent a message to me on the day of the projected delivery date that gave the impression that he received it.

I purchased an item online recently that the company shipped using Priority. It should have been delivered in 3 days, per the USPS's own estimate. For almost a week it had no new scans show up - the tracking info showed only the initial receipt scan and one move after that, leaving a sort facility on the other coast.

After 10 days, I finally received it. :furious:

I'd let it sit awhile to see if the package eventually gets delivered. After 5 transit days you can submit a "delayed mail" issue to the USPS. What they do about it, I don't know exactly, but a day and a half after I submitted one on the package above, it magically got scanned at the sorting facility near my house - exactly 2 minutes after my local post office called me to say they couldn't find it :confused3 I don't know if my submitting the issue caused the post offices involved to look for it, but it couldn't hurt.

He could have just been responding to the fact that the USPS was showing the projected delivery date as that day. Or even just that you gave him the tracking number. I personally don't read his response as indicating he received it.

Depending on how metro or rural the package is being delivered to, the scanner from the USPS would be set up in a different method.

The first method would be what is labeled in the scanner as "on street motorized wireless" which would almost instantly update scans. So you can track your package throughout the day.

The second method for more rural areas would be scanned under "on street motorized" and would only download data after the carrier has returned for the day.

However, in order for it to be sent out, it would have to be scanned accepted at their local post office.

Just paying for DC doesn't mean anything. Unless you have PROOF it was delivered you are responsible for either sending him another one or refunding him his original purchase price plus shipping.

So I would give the USPS a few more days to see if it gets delivered. If not, Priority mail now comes with $50 insurance so you will need to go to your post office with the DC# and file a claim with the insurance. But in the meantime you will still have to refund him.

I had an issue with a package not showing any tracking, in fact it didn't even show it had been mailed, just postage printed. I had mailed it nearly a week prior so I went down to my PO where I mailed it and they looked it up on so e system only they have access to and it was being tracked on their system and was out of delivery that day. I was told that if the public system. Didn't update to delivered that I could get something from their internal system proving it was delivered. Maybe go down to your local PO and have them track it and see what they say.
