Well I finally did it, I signed up for an Ebay Sniping account (w. a reputable site online offering a 2 week free trial) and successfully sniped my first item :rotfl: It's not normally something I would do, even though it's not against Ebay rules and A LOT of people use this method these days, but I was desperate! My DD6 has decided to be Hannah Montana for Halloween and I couldn't find a HM wig anywhere! Lo and behold there are tons on Ebay and I wasn't about to lose out on them :lmao: I actually did lose the first bid because my buffer was set to 8 seconds and someone else must've sniped also and grabbed it with 4 seconds to go, but I lowered my buffer to 6 seconds the second time and my DD is the proud owner of her own Hannah Montana wig! :cheer2:

How many of you use a snipe site & what do you think of them? Any comments from sellers (is it a benefit for you or doesn't matter either way as long as you get paid?).

I use goofbay dot com. It is free. So far has been really reliable.

I do not use one, but I have to tell you I almost got sniped last night, good thing I was prepared and had put in a high bid and was watching....they just did not anticipate that I was that prepared...

I have to be honest here, I think they take the fun out of bidding, but I certainly understand your wanting to get that for your daughter. I think as a seller it does not make any difference as long at the buyer follows through with the sale and you get your money, it probably does not matter. For a buyer, it is frustrating for sure to think you are almost there and in the last 3 seconds you get outbid and you are watching and there is no time to enter a higher bid...

So now, I just enter my highest bid, higher than I anticipate a sniper might go and just hope for the best..

I have used a sniper before. I kept trying and trying to get hold of AKL curtains that Mouse Surplus had up, but wasn't able to. I finally managed to snag them with a sniping program.

Yep... use them all the time. Why bother waiting and sitting in front of a computer when I could be doing something else?

I put my max. and move on. Sometimes I even forget I bid, so its a suprise when I check my email.

I can't stand sniping. Wouldn't use one, even if it means loosing an auction on occasion.

hello - my name is suzimar and i'm an ebay sniper.:upsidedow

(hello suzimar!)

don't need any programs - just set a timer and i'm good to go (tick tick tick tick tick)

and no - i make no apology for it, either! :lmao:

i found out long ago on ebay, if you want something, you gotta snipe.

(any auction i lost, was to a sniper - you learn quick!)

sorry - but that's proven to be a fact of life on ebay.

ok - i'm done....

I do the same thing myself!! I wait until approx 15 seconds out and then I start watching, then with 5 seconds left I bid. Works

I've been paying closer attention to when the bidding time ends and then in the last couple minutes, I just refresh, refresh, refresh constantly. Its always in the last minute someone bids against me so I can decide if I really want to pay more for it or not...
Last week I got my son a Karbon jacket really cheap and yesterday I got another awesome Karbon Jacket for my daughter.
Those jackets are $150+! And I also got my formal dress for our cruise next April!

So, I don't sign up for sniper services, I just make sure that I'll be available when it ends.

I can't always be in front of the computer when an auction is ending, so yes, I snipe. I've noticed that sniping has gotten very fierce with ebay lately. Three second bids against four second bids. I'll bet that sniping programs will get so sophisicated that it will get down to 1 or 2 seconds on the snipe.

I LOVE my sniper account :) I use it all the time. I put in my max and just forget it. I am pleasantly surprised most of the time :)

This is so true! Most sniping sites tell you to put in 10 seconds just to be on the safe side incase of slow internet connection to Ebays server, but I can't see 10 seconds working very often! Like I mentioned in my OP, I got sniped last night with a buffer of 8 seconds and someone grabbed it at 4 seconds

I don't think sniping is something I'll use often, but it's very useful if I can't sit in front of the computer and honestly, more and more people are using it so it's like trying to keep up with the Jones'!

I always snipe, even if I don't have to. :thumbsup2

And then I chortle gleefully as the silly people who bid 3 days before the auction end -- LOSE!!!! :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I had no idea the world of eBay was so gleefully cutthroat. ;)

So people who don't PAY to have this sniper service can pretty much forget about winning bids for something they want?????? JEEZ......the scheme's they come up with!! :sad2: (Someone's gettin' rich!)

Well I'm not paying anything for the snipe service right now, it came w. a 2 week free trial & I know a lot of people who use free sniping services as opposed to the pay ones. Even if I was using the pay service w. this site I'm signed up with now, it's VERY cheap...$0.25-$10.00 depending on what the winning bid was. For instance, if the winning bid was between $0-$24.99, you would pay $0.25 for the service and if the winning bid was $1,000 and higher you would pay $10.00. I wouldn't say that people who don't use sniping services never win their bids because most people snipe on their own by sitting at the computer and entering a bid at the last possible moment; the sniping service just allows you to leave your computer.

there are several free sniping sites.

I use auctionstealer.com
