eBay Sellers -- Check Shipping Rates!

I mail a 5x7 envie every week through the post office. Most weeks I pay between 1.92 and 2.12 depending on the thickness (weight) I always get a tracking number for free.

I have a different problem with the Ebay shipping. I purchased an item and the shipping was listed as $62+. I figured it was heavy so probably realistic. When I received the item, the shipping on the label said $28.25. That is a HUGE difference. I didn't contact the seller to see if I would be receiving a refund for the shipping difference. Haven't heard anything yet.

It's the difference between the USPS definitions of an envelope and a package. If it's over 3/4" thick even if in an envelope it's considered a package.

Okay, thanks. eBay shipping is sometimes a hassle, I'm learning with this item.

If you are selling items that go first class, then you probably should go for free shipping and just adjust the price of the item to compensate. Then you get the auto 5 star for shipping costs.

Hmm..never thought of that, might try that, since I'm still trying to establish myself. Thanks!

Priority Mail Flat Rate envelopes can be any thickness as long as they seal. First class envelopes over 3/4" are charged package rates.

It sounds like there was an issue with eBay's system that caused some miscalculations. As long as the weight and dimensions are correct, they price paid should match the price charged, minus the online shipping discount.

First class packages get free tracking as well. I have mailed out about 70 fist class packages over the past couple months and printed my labels through Paypal and all have had free tracking.

Yes but only if printed online. Also, totally flat envelopes do not, which was part of the deal here.

Yes totally flat envelopes do. I was sending out things that were flat and sent in a standard card envelope. All with tracking.

Well, they are not supposed to, it has to have something rigid in it (many people use a piece of Styrofoam or something if it's just paper and flat)

Worst case is the PO flags it and the recipient has to pay the difference. A clerk at the PO would not allow trakcing to be purchased for a flat envelope unless mailing priority. Most of the time I'm sure it goes trhough just fine.

ETA: I'm not trying to be argumentative either just want people to have the correct information.

There is nothing saying that online. I just tell them the weight and size and it tells me what to get. I did have cardboard in it, like the backs of notebooks, not like a box.

And I've mailed several of these by handing them directly to the clerk to make sure on pricing and even they were fine with it. You can buy tracking for every single envelope or tracking. It's not just for boxes.

And I'm not sure what you mean pay the difference. It costs $1.69 to mail them with tracking when w/o tracking it just costs a stamp. I'm way over paying for the envelopes but have to cover my tush for ebay stuff.

Never knew I could print through Paypal, I tend to use the app to check payments. But I went to website and saw the Print Shipping Label. Thanks!

And I tend to use eBay since they offer discounts, but now I'll have to check to see if discounts are even worth it.

Paypal offers the same discount as ebay.

I always print my labels thru USPS click n ship. So if you go thru Paypal you get a discount????????? After I have shipped at least 60 first class packages?

If you print labels through ebay paypal, not only do you get a discount it also automatically notifies the buyer that the has shipped and uploads the tracking #.

It also includes $50 insurance.

Priority Mail includes up to $100 insurance.

What many people don't realize is that paypal is a wholly owned subsidiary of ebay - so whether you use ebay or paypal it's going to be the same discounted price.

That is correct however EBay seems to always be having "glitches" with their shipping calculator. It's been this way since I've been a member (1999). PayPal doesn't have these issues, even though owned by EBay. That's why I suggest printing label through PayPal.

The only bad thing about printing shipping labels on paypal is that it wastes a whole sheet esp. if you use sticky label paper whereas ebay you can print 2 labels per sheet
