I keep getting emails supposedly from Ebay saying that I need to click a link to validate and update my acount. I could be suspended from Ebay use...I went to Ebay to try to report this and couldn't get past the first screen. I clicked [possible scam email and then the next page was suppose to give me subtopics to choose from and there were none. Anyone else receive this?

No, but we keep getting paypal emails saying pment received for things we haven't ordered and there is no activity in our paypal account. I guess this is "phishing" :confused3

Hi dpratt68,

I also get these all the time

The way to tell if it is a REAL ebay email is that it will have your name :)

The fake emails start "Dear ebay member" .....

Just forward it to www.spoof@ebay.com and they will follow it up ::yes::

Whatever you do, do NOT reply to it or complete any personal info, otherwise you are opening the doors for someone to access your identity, banks etc

Hope this helps :flower:

I don't know what I was thinking but a couple weeks back, I replied to one from "Paypal". I guess the line that got me was when they told me my account was going to immediately be suspended if I didn't. I very nicely provided them with all of my information. The very next morning, my bank called to tell me that my card was attempting to be used in Romania during the middle of the night. Fortunately, my bank stopped the transaction and immediately closed my debit card. Lesson learned, that's for sure. :guilty:

I just had another one come through this week from "Ebay". Sent it right off to Ebay. I knew better than to open it that time.

Never enter data into any screen you reach by clicking links in email, even if it looks like the website is the real McCoy. Always go to the website directly, typing in the website address yourself manually. Any offer or threat for which the email does not provide a set of instructions for you to reach a page to react to it, when entering the website manually, isn't worth pursuing.

I didn't think it was legit and didn't reply. I will try again to forward it. thanks everyone for responding so quickly

Same thing goes for Paypal, if the email starts "Dear Paypal member"

Send it to spoof@paypal.com and they will follow it up.

Paypal usually recommends that you change your password as well ::yes::

I had one telling me I had just paid $395 for something I hadn't ordered :scared1: recently

I called the paypal phone number just to verify that my account wasn't being accessed by someone else, they told me that it was OK, but there is a lot of "phishing" happening lately.

I guess the "crooks" are looking for Christmas money :confused3

I sent the email off to Ebay and they sent me back a response almost immediately saying it was in fact it was a fake. They verified had I clicked on the link I would have left my info out there. Thanks for the good advice

i got a spoof e-mail from "ebay" that did have my name in it. I emailed if to ebay and they said that it appeared that a third party had gotten my account info, so I needed to change my password. If it is a legitimate ebay email, it will show up in your messages on "my ebay".

You don't have to use the www, just email them at spoof@ebay.com or if it comes from Pay Pal, spoof@paypal.com

For one of the companies (maybe Amazon.com?) its anti-spoof@... I wish they'd have a standard for this, like abuse@...
