ebay question

I usually end my auctions on Sunday (so I can ship Monday) - Monday night (so I can ship Tuesday) or Thursday night (so I can ship Friday..

However, getting it to the Post Office does not insure "quick" delivery..

I see your point, but the buyer can see the postmark date and feel confident that I did my part and shipped it when they paid. When a buyer sends a money order that is postmarked five days after they won the item and my auction terms state 7 days, well that isn't very responsible on their part.

I agree - 100%.. Just pointing out that the PO isn't all it's cracked up to be - either for the buyer OR the seller.. I can't tell you the number of times I've sent a bill across the river and was SOOOO annoyed that it took a WEEK or more to get there! Then they wonder why people would prefer to correspond via email, pay bills on-line, etc..

Yeah no kidding! I pay all my bills online now and the one bill I can't pay online (my rent), I physically drive to the property management company because one month they said it was late and charged me a $170 late fee!!! (10% of the rent!!) It was during the whole anthrax thing though, so the mail was slow at that point. Knock on wood...but I haven't had any USPS problems with anything on ebay yet (I think I just jinxed myself LOL).

I do love Paypal!

Remember, if you have very strict payment terms (e.g., 7 days), you'd better expect that your buyers are going to have equally strict shipping terms, and will expect to recieve their items within 7 days, too--hope you're using a fast form of shipment!

Having strict payment terms will also eliminate some buyers. I know I could never mail a payment for an item that had to be paid within 7 days. It takes a week to get lettermail to the next town.
:earseek: We don't get mail delivered on Saturdays so I also offer my buyers extra time to account for that. I figure if shipping my items internationally could take a couple of weeks (customs, etc) I have to be fair and offer the same allowable time for payment to be made.

Not to sound rude, but if it's that hard for you to get to the post office and get a money order and you don't really have "time" to do it, then I would suggest bidding on a different item that accepts paypal.

I'm very firm with my payment terms. If the payment isn't in my mailbox on the 7th day, I start the non paying bidder alert process. Afterall, I've already shelled out the fees for that item you won, and to get those fees back takes time, so thats why I start it right on the 7th day. I have had several buyers who have purchased and mailed money orders the same day they won the auction and those money orders have arrived in a couple days. I personally don't want people bidding on my items that can't find the time to get the post office to buy a money order, because chances are they will be a late payer. I sell on ebay to make money...not to be layaway for people :)

I am so glad that you did not want to sound rude!

To floridagirrl2: Glad you tried Disney again and got hooked. My DH and I went on our honeymoon and have only missed two years since, but sometimes go twice..........LOL :hyper: ::yes::

In my area if an item is being shipped WEST, it must be first shipped EAST (from NY to Springfield, MA)

Gosh, my mail coming to me from CA, for instance often takes 7 days..but going out, since we (and you) have a main mail distribution center (Colonie) your mail shouldn't have to go to Springfield first : (
We have the big trucks moving west right from that post office. I have found too, that if I mail a letter from the outside postal box at my local small post office, it gets there faster than if I mail inside. Since the "main" post office picks up the outside mail several times a day, but not the inside mail, that's where we mail our bills from! Of course if we actually bring it to the main post office, it flies out West much faster than if we mail locally.

PS I don't bid on an auciton that gives me less than 10 days to pay, even if I plan on using Paypal. In fact I don't like to see a lot of "rules" in acutions. As soon as they start listing when my payment must arrive, how much feedback I should have, how they'll neg me in a NY minute, etc, I just back out of the room.

Or quite a bit farther south! (but not as far as Orlando--Northern FL is a lot less expensive than Central/Southern FL......athough the way real estate prices have been shooting up since interest rates have gone down, I may be totally wrong :) ).

Ah..that's the beauty of you being close enough to use New Karner.. The EG Post Office doesn't route their mail that way (or so they keep telling me).. I've questioned them numerous times about this and have always gotten the same answer, so I can ony assume it's correct..

When I used to go to the Renss. PO (before they wiped out my Paypal account on me) I think (although I'm not sure) that mail posted there "may" have routed through New Karner because I noticed a difference in delivery time.. I won't go back there though - trying to straighten out that Paypal incident was a nightmare and they never so much as even apologized!!

I shudder to think what will happen if we move to an area with an even SMALLER PO - or heaven forbid if I try to mail anything from the 2-horse town up to the lake.. They'll probably send it to CHINA first - LOL..:teeth:

Ditto. When I see an auction listing all these rules and regs, I figure there is a significant likelihood that the seller is going to be a pain.

My auctions say "Payment appreciated within 10 days." I send an invoice at the end of the auction, but I don't nag people with multiple emails asking them when they are going to pay. After selling on Ebay for about 6 years, I have come to realize that 98-99% of the high bidders are going to pay me, and the other 1-2% aren't going to pay me no matter what it says in my auctions or emails.;)
