EBay Question

I've been using EBay for years and have never had a problem. Recently, I "won" an item for roughly $20 + about $10 shipping costs. I paid the seller through PayPal.

Here is the correspondence on the subject:

Comment on Paypal when the money was refunded: "Shipping Error"

My e-mail reply: "Shipping Error? What does that mean?"

Seller's reply: "It means that I cant get it out in time and I am having some money flow issues."

The item in question, a logitech steering wheel for computer games is a pretty cheap commodity item and not some special collectible, so I'm not terribly chuffed at having the seller renege. My question is, what should I do now? Just let it go? Leave neutral feedback? Leave negative feedback?

I would leave negative feedback. The seller listed the item, and has an obligation to sell it. He/she could have ended the auction instead of letting it end.

I really don't like to leave negative feedback, but I think it's warranted in this case.

Since the seller refunded the money (without a fight) I would probably leave neutral feedback myself.

The only way I would leave negative is if the seller took my money and refused to send the item or strung me along for weeks before giving the refund.

I just had this happen. Seller sold an item that he supposedly had 10 of and I bought one. After I paid he said he no longer had them in stock and they were backordered. He refunded my money and I left negative feedback. I don't think you should be listing something for sale that you don't actually have.

It sounds like your seller was selling things he didn't have and now has a cash flow problem and can't buy them.

Maybe the item got broken after you paid so they refunded you as the item was not as you had purchased?

I once sold an item on eBay, which I dropped while trying to wrap it up to post and it got scratched. I sent a message to the buyer telling them so and offered them a refund but they still wanted the item anyway and weren't bothered about the scratch, but they thanked me for letting them know and offering their money back.

I would not leave a negative. He refunded your money. You may find that although the feedback system is extremely buyer friendly these days, you may still have a hard time bidding on future auctions. I was told by a friend of mine that sells heavy on ebay that "word gets around" now. I would let it go and make a note that you don't want to buy from that seller again.

Did you get a really good deal at that price? Call me suspicious, but I wonder if the seller wanted to get a higher price and plans to relist at a later date.
