I just looked on Ebay to see if the Pirates toys are out anywhere yet. Well, there are lots of auctions for "Presale" To Be Shipped July 7th.

Does Ebay actually allow transactions where the seller is selling things they don't even have yet? What if something delayed several of the toys? NOT starting anything, I am honestly just curious. Doesn't seem like good business to me. ???

I wouldn't bid on an auction like that.

Yes, eBay allows "presale" auctions if the seller can guarantee shipment within 30 days of the auction end. I wouldn't bid on one myself as there are often problems with these.

If you know the release date of a toy, seems a lot safer just to show up at a toy store on that day and buy the item yourself.

There have been presales on ebay ever since I started on ebay in 98.
The first presales I saw were for beanie babies. Dealers would know a shipment was coming in and presell them to ebayers for a huge amount of money.

I've purchased a few presales of fast food toys. Most of them were employees of fast food who had access to the entire line the first day.

As long as their feedback was good and they guaranteed a ship date it wouldn't bother me.

thanks! I'm not bidding, I imagine these will be super-high-priced on Ebay for a while. Anyway, during my summer class schedule I am sure we'll be at Mc Donald's a little TOO often. We'll get our own toys.

I have sold on Ebay quite a bit, but never would dream of preselling.

THanks for the info!

Yes, ebay does allow this. As another poster mentioned, the item has to be delivered within 30 days of the close of the auction.

There are many exclusive Disney Related Events where the limited edition merchandise is in high demand. There are many people who want the merchandise but don't want to pay the $$ it costs to attend.

For example: A few years ago I went on the WDAC Disney Cruise convention.
The cost was over $1K for my DH and I to go on the cruise and participate in the event, not incuding airfare. There were several WDCC sculptures that were gifted and others that available by RSP (random selection process) and were limited edition. If you collect WDCC, wanted the sculpture and didn't go on the cruise, a pre-sale was a way to get one.

I often do pre-sales of merchandise from the paid Disney Events I attend. I never sell anything unless I have been guarenteed to receive the item by Disney ie: Disney sends email notice that I have been awarded the item on my RSP. I offer a full money back refund in the event that there is a problem with the item or shipment will be delayed due to a production problem.

There is nothing shady about buying a pre-sale on ebay. It can seem underhanded. Like any other auction, it is important to check the seller's feedback and history. Check the terms of the auction and bid accordingly. It is strickly a personal choice, the key is to make an informed decision. Know the item, get to know the seller, decide on a price and stick to it. Ask questions of the seller if you are not sure of their terms. What is their policy if the item becomes unavailable? What is their shipping time?? How do they ship? All sellers should be happy to answer questions about their items or terms.

Send all questions through ebay's message system, then you have a record of it in My ebay.

I love questions........that way I am sure there are no misunderstandings when it comes to my auctions.

You can wait until the item becomes available 'in person'. At that time the prices on ebay may be higher or lower than the pre-sale price depending on demand.

If you have any other questions please post. I'll do my best to answer.

Great question!!! :thumbsup2

BTW.....what Pirate toys were you looking for??

I was at Walmart and Toys R Us the other day and they both had a ton, action figures, swords, all kinds of stuff.

The Mcdonalds happy meal toys caught my eye. I am prepped to run out and eat lots of Happy Meals in the near future, but could stand to save myself the calories and just bid on Ebay, lol. I was just checking Ebay because I was trying to decide if we should get McD's last night for dinner (it depended on whether those toys had appeared early, they are not supposed to start till Friday.)

Thanks for the info!! Great info on here!!!!
