Seeking the advice of the wise DISers. You guys have great input so I just want to double check. We sold a paintball gun, the buyer requested to have it by Thursday. It is schedlued to be delivered tomorrow.

He emails tonight and asks if we can have changed to be picked up at the ups faculty (about 30 minutes away) because he says he will not be home.

Does this sound ok to you guys? The only positive is that he would have to show id to get it, and couldn't claim he didn't receive it. Just trying to be as careful as I can because I know PayPal sides with the buyer. TIA

I don't see a problem with it but then generally I am not looking for problems.

Will UPS let you (as tye shipper) change the delivery conditions before one attempt has been made? They won't let the recipient do that until after the first attempt, but then when they leave the info notice the customer can call and even arrange to pick up late that same day... said the voice of experience ;).

I would make sure you pay for signature delivery. That way if it signed for you know he got it.

If the buyer picks up at UPS, they require not only a signature but also a government-issued ID. It's even more secure than delivery - since often (unless signature was required in advance - drivers will just leave the package.

Make sure you check to see if there is a charge for doing this. UPS advertises about redirecting a package while in transit but what they don't tell you is there is sometimes a charge for this. I would think there wouldn't be a charge to hold it at the local UPS facility, but you may want to check.

And I agree it's much more secure. I've had to pick up at UPS before and I had to sign and show ID to get it.

As the shipper yes, you can call UPS and ask for it to be updated to pickup instead of delivery. However, if the item is already out for delivery they will not be able to change it. There is generally no charge for making this type of change. Alternately, if you've requested a signature upon delivery UPS will leave a notice on the delivery door that an attempt was made, at that time the purchaser can call UPS and make the arrangements for pickup.

What about failing to deliver it to the CONFIRMED shipping address from PayPal? So even if it shows delivered, the buyer claims they didn't get it through PayPal and their records show it was delivered to a facility not even in the same city (not sure if 30 miles will be a different city) than the confirmed shipping address?

Just a thought...
