EBAY problem w/ paypal

A little off the original topic, just to add to the long list of delightful ebay stories...

My husband used to sell used tools on e-bay. One of the tools, a very expensive automobile code scanner, sold for $1000. My husband shipped it insured, signature required, etc. The buyer filed a report with ebay (not even notifying DH) that the item came broken and they wanted their money back, which Paypal did almost immediately. The buyer did send the item back but, alas, it was missing a vital part. The odd thing is that the picture of the item on the listing showed it with the part, working perfectly. Paypal and ebay would have absolutely no part of hearing DH out. In this case, buyer protection covers the buyer with no regard for the seller. DH was out the $1000 and could not sell the item which didn't work without the missing part.

Both our ebay accounts are now closed for good. Now we almost exclusively deal with Craigslist. There are wayyyy too many scammers out there for ebay to function properly and their customer service (if you get a rep you can actually understand) is HORRIBLE.

Just my "ebayer beware" warning.

oh i'm sure it's bad for both buyer and seller. i just happen to be a victim buyer this time. out another $50..........

As others have pointed out, insurance and signature are not required so the item was sent properly. Was insurance an additional option? I'm sorry that you are out of money :(. Really, I am. I would double check that your address is correct and verify with the seller where they sent the item.

dunno. says it was sent, over and over and over. That's all a seller needs to do or say i guess.

the point is, it's not working for customers (and sellers too i guess). not ok, just not ok.

The Post Office is making more and more mistakes and needs to be held accountable!

I've had 2 items I've tracked saying delivered and nada! When I called the PO they said the seller had to put the trace on it.

I was out of an item I wanted and was sold out. Yes, my CC reinbursed me but we must make the PO more accountable for their sloppy work.

So true. but here's another problem........ A friend told me this...

what if a seller an empty envelope in the mail addrssed to you. YOu then call paypal and say, i got an envelope (delivered wth tracking) and nothing in it. hmmmmmmmmm. Paypal and ebay and seller say you were DELIVERED. NO REFUND . To much room for error with this system.

CAN'T BUY FROM EBAY .

From the post office, linked to from eBay:

What does Track & Confirm show?

Enter your label number to see the status of your item. If you shipped with Express Mail®, you’ll get point-by-point tracking details. If you used another service—Delivery Confirmation™, Certified Mail™, Registered Mail™ —you’ll see when it went out for delivery.

That last part is what is confounding me about what you are saying the resolution people are saying. DC does NOT show delivery. I'd keep on trying. And I'd talk to your postmaster, For this problem and because it is not right that your carrier is so relaxed about his job.

Molly - although I know you copied that from the website, in general I think that just means what you see on the website using their Track & Confirm service. Because if you do registered mail for example (I think it's registered - it's been a while since I did any of those options), a signed receipt is generated. So with those other choices (at least Registered and Certified I mean), there are ways to prove actual delivery, I believe.

I had a mail order delivery which was correctly addressed but mistakenly delivered to my same house number, but 5th Street instead of 5th Court. Our streets were right next to each other, in a complex where every building looked the same. We contacted the people on 5th Street, who admitted receiving the delivery, but it took over a week to get the package from them, after constant calls. They were playing major games with us, we don't understand why. People are very odd animals.

I have also had my credit card info stolen twice now right after using paypal and both times it was stolen to sign up for online dating sites I got my money back after filing with fraud depts but caused bounced checks at my bank that I wasnt reimbursed for,I now refuse to use paypal and will send sellers a PM on ebay to ask if they will accept other payment, most do but not all...it is really annoying ebay almost has nothing but paypal AND you cant sell anything without a paypal acct.

For certain categories like video games ebay actually requires that you have to accept only Paypal. I used to accept money orders but am not allowed to anymore.

I can't understand why you think Paypal had something to do with your CC info being stolen to ring up fraudulent purchases. By using Paypal, no one has a way to know your CC info, do they? Isn't that the point of using Paypal? I would look elsewhere for the point of the fraud, especially people who swipe your card at restaurants and other places where your card is taken out of your sight.

PayPal is a sweet (and apparently easy) target for scammers and spammers.

I had a seller ship an item to the wrong address. When I came to California, I changed my Ebay address to California from Florida, because I purchased a book on Ebay. I even got the package no problem.
When I was in Texas, I ordered a PC program. I did a different ship to address so it would go to Texas (home confirmed was Cali). The guy fuddled around with shipping my package a week later (paid monday, sent friday). This happened to be exactly one year from the date of my change of address. So he sent it to Florida address, and since it was one day later than the forwarding address, it didn't get picked up by the post office. It was marked as Delivered in Florida.

I talked to Ebay 3 times, confirming he mailed it to the wrong address. Then I had to wait a week to open up a claim, and they denied it, saying it was "delivered". I was fuming mad, it's like they didn't even read the claim stating he mailed it to the wrong address.
I actually got a hold of the FL post office, he talked to the mail carrier for my old address. Found out, the mail carrier accidently marked it delivered, but knew I changed the address. He went ahead and did a return to sender.

Just before I talked to Ebay about the denied claim, he sent me a message saying he received the item back and to give him my address to send it again. I was fed up with the guy and just wanted the refund.
Ebay was able to look at the claim, and verify once again he mailed it to the wrong address. They refunded me immediately.

Maybe you can file a claim with a post office if there was insurance. Or call ebay directly to talk to them.

If there was insurance, that's irrelevant, as the package is showing as delivered.

Why bother calling eBay? There is nothing they can do, plus they don't provide phone support.

I don't think there's anything you can do, sorry to say.
My son saved his money to buy an item he wanted on eBay. We ordered it, with insurance, and checked the mailbox (bank of locked mailboxes) eagerly every day. The item never came. We inquired about it and the post office had it recorded as "Delivered" to our correct address, and a delivery date and time.
The insurance wouldn't pay because it was "delivered." It obviously wasn't the seller's fault. Paypal wouldn't pay either.

It was extremely frustrating. I feel for you.

Yes, better to order from the retailers on line for me i guess. Last month, stuff from lands end didn't come for weeks. Called them, needed items for school and sports and they sent a replacement overnight. So grateful.

But how did the seller even get your old address in Florida?

I've run into this with ebay - there are 2 places for your address - registration address and shipping address. I've had buyers update their registration address, but not the primary shipping address. When I get the payment, it tells me to ship to their old address (primary shipping address).

They do have phone support, it's on the contact page. I've called them and talked to them. Maybe it's a feature for long time users or something strange. I only have a feedback of like 10 and the account has been active since 2001.

I don't know how he got the old address, because when I moved to Cali, I updated my paypal account with a new checking account and had it all set for the Cali address. When I placed the order, I changed it from the Cali to Texas as the ship to address. Even if it went to the billing address, it would've been shipped to Cali.

But Paypal and Ebay shows Cali as confirmed/home address.
