I've read the sticky at the top of this board and also info from Paypal site, but I still have a few questions from all you experts out there.

I was thinking of starting to sell some things on eBay to bring in some extra cash. The FAQ's page at the top of this board says you should set up a separate e-mail and checking account folely for eBaying.

If I do that, won't that start me out with a '0' rating on eBay? Will that make it harder to sell items? I only have one checking account with my financial institution. If I change my e-mail for eBay, won'y I have to change it with Paypal, too?

When money is paid via paypal, can I transfer that to my checking account or will they send me a paper check?

Any other tips out there for setting up eBay account and paypal for receiving payments?

Thanks!
Terri

Hi Terri!

It's not absolutely necessary to set up a separate bank account or email address soley for ebay. It is merely a suggestion to protect your finances should someone access your account. Do I sense that you already have an ebay user id? If you do, and decide that you would like to establish an email address and bank account just for ebay transactions, you can always update your account information.

When you choose to withdraw funds from PayPal, the funds will be deposited in your checking account as an electronic transfer. It usually takes about 3 days for the funds to become available for you to access at the ATM or at the branch office. At some point in time you may want to order the PayPal debit Mastercard, giving you easy access to your PayPal funds.

What I did several years ago was set up a separate savings account which is the only banking contact I have with PayPal. When I withdraw funds (electronically) from PayPal it goes into that account. I will then move funds into my main savings account. If anyone should manage to break into Paypal and hack back into my bank the only thing they could get would be the hundred dollars or so I maintain in that account.

You can change email and banking information with paypal and ebay without changing your account status. IMO it is a good idea to have a seperate email just for ebay/paypal, as well as a seperate account for your paypal to link to. Reason being, if you get a bad buyer who tries to do a charge back on your account, paypal can freeze your bank account until the matter is settled. This would NOT be something that you want done with your personal bank account.

Can you hook it up with an ING account? Maybe that would give me motivation to start one of those....sounds to me like Paypal isn't such a great idea anymore. I've heard people getting scammed with chargebacks? How can you avoid this? :confused3

Thanks! I'll have to look into getting a separate account for paypal.

Terri

Unfortunetly you can not use ING for paypal. You can always transfer your ebay money to ING.
