Ebay- Looks like I've just lost £200

Hi everyone thanks for the good wishes.

I have been selling on Ebay for over 3 years now and I have never had any problems up until now. I have sold some things of high value before and also haven't had anything bad happen with these.

As some have said - I too thought that if I transferred the money from Paypal to my bank account straight away then it would be ok, but they just remove the money from your paypal account and leave it in a negative - when you start getting money paid back in they just take it. I don't know how they can do this. It makes a mockery of the whole system -

Paypal charged me £8 for the transaction which you presume means that it's legitamate and all cleared so you send the goods. What are we as sellers supposed to do? You end up annoying your winning bidders if you say that you won;t send the items until 10 days is up. Then you end up with negative feedback! You can't win. It seems the only winners are ebay and paypal.

I have tried to find the link in ebay to change my pay pal account over to DH's as I have currently got over 50 listings pending for this week. I am worried that if Paypal start to get their money back then they won't care anymore about trying to sort out the problem. But guess what finding the link that lets you do this is impossible! What a surprise!

The other really annoying thing is that when I looked at the person's account details on ebay they have done this to some one else in the last month! And Ebay still lets them trade - The lady was stung in exactly the same way as me.

It annoys me that they send emails saying that if you don't carry a transaction out through ebay and you choose to finish an auction ealy that it won't be covered by ebay or paypals security policy - but it seems that non of us are covered anyway!

Even if the payment has been made using a stolen card then surely Paypal should cover it as they have accepted the charge to start with.

I must say that this has made me think twice about using Paypal again but then it reduces my selling capacity as a lot of my sales go to the USA.

Thanks for listening Rant over!!

What a nightmare. I hope you get some joy getting it sorted

I'm really sorry about your situation....Paypal took £419 out of my bank account on the 12th Sept, unauthorised! I only noticed because they took me to my overdraft and the card was refused in a shop. I hadn't brought anything, i phoned paypal and i must say u do have to ring them, as they are completley useless at communicating. They have stopped the money that was taken out my account, but refuse to give it back till it's been looked into, i even spent 2 hours in the police station on saturday to find out what was happening and to report it! All i would say is, keep ringing!

I totally agree with Emily....as Isaid before the only way to get assisitance from them is to ring. Ask to speak to a Supervisor the employee will ask what it is in connection with but refuse to tell them just say you need to speak to management thats the only way I got it sorted11 (well sort of!!)
Hope it works out for you aswell Emily xx

Haven't sold anything, only ever buy off ebay. Hope you have some good luck Gems and get your money back.

Aaah that's awful for you. Hope you get things sorted. Sending :wizard: for luck and remember what goes around comes around so hopefully something horrid will happen to the person who did this soon :)

I asked paypal a question (nothing to do with eBay) the other day and got a very helpful response but when I got a survey from them asking me to rate their service I told them I'd heard bad things about them cancelling payments after they've been cleared. If they really care about public opinion they should take notice of survey results - every little helps!

I've had this a couple of times. File a disputed transaction immediately.
Hopefully you have signed for proof of posting such as special delivery or recorded delivery. The proof of posting receipt from the post office is not sufficient.
Paypal will then instigate an investigation.
Obviously it is not guaranteed but I'd stick at it.

That's terrible, you'd think the credit card companies would have to honour the payment to paypal if it was fraudulent the same as they do with shops. Though saying that I remember from working in a shop that the credit card company would ask you to prove the signature was a good forgery etc, and you did all the checks before you accepted it. But they usually honoured it in the end. If it doesn't work like that with Paypal, that's terrible, they shouldn't be allowed to operate.

If that buyer had done it before, it's only a matter of time before loads of people are doing it. They need to sort it out or no-one will use it. I'm thinking twice about selling anything on ebay again.
