Ebay local pick up question

Grrrr...Now I remember why I stopped selling on ebay a while back. So I listed a large item on ebay and put Local pick-up as the only shipping option. I stated in the description that is was for local pick-up only and that I would NOT ship. I didn't care what the thing sold for, I just wanted some one to come and pick it up and take it out of my yard. SO, two bidders kept outbididng each other for it and it sold for more than I expected to ever get for it. I get the buyers info after the auction ends and it is someone in the Azerbaijan Republic who expects it to be shipped!!!!!!!! let me tell you , we are talking about shipping something the size of a patio set of furniture to where ever on Earth that place is for a selling price of $25. Um, no. So I have emailed and emailed over 2 days and haven't heard anything from them, and I'm sure they dont speak or read English anyway. I am so mad that I have to wait to enter a resolution report , and wait all that time to relist the item!!! I wanted this out of my house before Thanksgiving. The worst thing is, I had another person who wanted it and would have probaly picked it up - but now I have to wait for the resolution to clear to resell. :(

So this is my question - what can I do to avoid this? I realize that I should have blocked internation buyers - but I listed this on my Iphone app and I just figured that by selecting local pick up for the shipping, it would automatically take care of that. Another glitch I see, is that when I sent the invoice (just incase their acc.t is listed in the Azerbaijan Republic, but they are actually currently local )- it wants me to select an appropriate shipping method for the invoice, but local pick-up only is not one of them. The listing only says "local pick-up offered". I did make it clear in the description that is was local pick up only...but ebay doesn't have a way to enter this in the auction. What other things beside blocking internation buyers could I have done to ensure it was clear that no shipping was offered?

I think there is a box to click local pick up only but you can't see it on the mobile site.

But yeah you should of blocked international bidders as a start.

Can you see the other person's real username who was bidding on it? If so, just email them through Ebay and explain what happened and offer it to them for a reasonable price.

I sell on eBay, all the time -- and 95% of the time, I restrict my sales to North America (ebay.com and ebay.ca), because I sell a lot of electronics that simply would not work in other parts of the world.

For those of you selling, make sure you have the proper country restrictions marked before you list anything for sale...

You can send a second chance offer to the other bidder. Just tell them that the other bidder was not local and it's available for pick up. If he was in a bidding war, then he must've been willing to pay the $25 it sold for. His highest bid would've $24 or $24.50 for the other guy to outbid him.

You can also edit your auctions after it's listed.

You'd be surprised how much other parts of the world would pay to have American stuff.

Who knows, maybe the "international" buyer was on vacation in the States, specifically the New Jersey or Long Island shore, and did not get power back after the hurricane and was unable to contact you to arrange a pickup.

Another thing you might consider for your eBay listings is a time limit to reply after winning an auction, after which time you can relist or do other things.

In general, yes -- but electronics (TVs, DVDs, etc.) tends to play-out differently as different regions of the world carry different standards.

You can open a claim and there is a box to check that the buyer is from somewhere you don't ship to. If it was clearly stated in your listing that it was local pickup, it should take about a week to close the claim and move on.
