So I'm looking for an iPod accessory that will let me play my iPod in the car. I see this auction on eBay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...sPageName=MERC_VI_ReBay_Pr4_PcY_BIN_Stores_IT

I have a two-part question in regards to that auction:

What the heck is that black cord in the background? Is there an FM Transmitter included (required?) in the auction, or do all I need is the white piece that connects the cigarette lighter to the iPod? Thanks!

shipping on the item is expensive. You can get one a best buy or the apple store for around the same price, either under 30 or under 40.

Answering your question, the cable is the power cable to power the FM transmitter. Of course if you want better sound quality you'll use line-out adapter from your iPod to your car's head unit.

My guess is that the black cord has nothing to do with the auction. I have a device which looks like a cassette tape with a wire, which goes in the tape player of my car radio. I plug the other end of the wire into the headphone jack of my iPod, then put the car radio on TAPE. This allows me to listen to the iPod through the car's speakers.

The transmitter being sold allows the person to bypass all this. The iPod is attached to the transmitter, which then transmits the signal to the FM station. So you turn your radio onto the selected station, and you listen through the car's speakers. The white cord at the bottom is attached to the transmitter and the car charger.

Goto Apple's website and look at iPod accessories, under car audio. You will see other devices which do the same thing (and get some price comparisons).

Is the FM transmitter included in the auction? This is exactally what I want/need, but I can't tell if the FM transmitter is included in the auction. Also, where does the FM transmitter plug in to (if anywhere)?

Debi, I was going to buy one of those things at Circuit City and the salesman told me that it would be a waste of money, as they don't really stay put.

Do you have a casette player in your car? If so, your best bet is the cassette adapter.

I have one of those FM transmitters and they are junk, I have an iTrip. I always had to be searching for a station to play my songs on, then as I was driving I would get interference. It was a pain! :scared1: My brother had the same experience with a different type and brand. I just bought a new radio that had a built-in adapter, that did it. :thumbsup2

The success of the iTrip depends on where you live. I use mine every time I get in the car and actually let my parents have my radio/CD player out of my car because I don't use it anymore. All I need is 87.9 on the radio.

I looked to buy one that would work with my IPOD. I looked and looked online for the best one. I decided to go into my local Radio Shack Stereo Center to see what they suggested. I was looking to spend about 40 to 50 for one. I asked the guy for something that would work my Ipod through my radio. He reached behind him and pulled out a $25 dollar one and put it on the counter. I'm like No I won't a good one! He said that is a good one. I asked if I could bring it back if I didn't like it? He said sure. That was 6 months ago and I love it!! It plugs into my cig lighter. I put the transmitter and Ipod in my ash tray. They both fit and don't follow out going down the road. Before you order online, check out your local stores and save on shipping.

Thanks, everyone! I already have the cassette adapter, but need something to mount the iPod on. I'm headed to Best Buy after work today to see what's offered.

Thanks again!
