I'm sorry in advance for all of the questions! ;)

I'm thinking of taking the plunge and I might try to sell some items on Ebay. I've been trying to get familiar with the site and I read the DIS Ebay faq. I'm unsure of abbreviations used on Ebay. Is NWT new with tag or never worn with tag? I did a search here but I didn't see anything that covered this.

Also, months ago, my local news station in Boston (WHDH for you Boston people :) ) did a segment on a company that assisted you with selling your items on ebay. I want to say it is in Dedham but I can't remember the company name and I can't find any info on WHDH's site. Does anyone know the name of this company?

Is it hard for someone to "break into" the ebay selling business? In other words, do buyers shy away from new sellers? And, was it hard for you to get started with ebay (did it take long before people would start buying from you?)

Thanks!

NWT means New with Tags. And I think the company you might be talking about is I Sold It. They are a franchise operation with stores across the country.

I had no problem when I first started 3 years ago. But I also think there was less fraud going on back then. My suggestion is to offer paypal, this way buyers are more likely to "take a chance" with a new seller because they have some kind of protection. As you build up your positive feedback, you will certainly receive higher auction prices. I am at over 3000 positives, no negatives and I have definitely noticed that some of my auctions go at a premium over similar auctions and I attribute that to the feedback. Best of luck to you. Ebay is a fun place!!!

I started selling about a year ago and people were happy to buy from me right off the bat. I had about 15 postive feedback but all were as a buyer. I did offer PayPal. I found it very easy to learn how to sell on eBay. Try selling one item at a time as you are learning. It is a lot of fun.
If you go through that ebay seller you have a minimum bid of 9.99 and you pay high fees to the company (about 30%) That is in addition to the ebay and PayPal fees you pay (about 5% combined) They do all the work for you but - Ouch-30%. You can definately do it on your own. Good luck.

Ask the seller (eBay has a feature for this) if you are unsure of his abbreviations after you read the item description.

Also turn off your email spam filter and accept all emails whenever you use eBay to be sure you get his reply.
